Default Looking for 4-ch heli that can be used in a thesis project

Hello,

I am looking for a relatively inexpensive heli that I can control via a microprocessor.

My research project will involve creating neural network and fuzzy logic control to help predict and aid a user in flying a heli, based on learning what the user typically inputs and feedback via a motion tracking system. It will hopefully improve speed, agility, prevent crashes and aid in the performance of more difficult flight maneuvers.

Anyone have any suggestions for a low cost 4 channel heli, that is preferably 2.4Ghz, but infrared will suffice if necessary? (ex. falcon 40)

Thank you,
Andrew

Will you need to be mounting hardware on the helicopter itself? Or will the additional hardware and software be at the 'base?'

A micro heli like the Blade MCX2 is light, cheap, easy to fly and inexpensive to repair and replace ... but it doesn't have the oomph to loft custom circuit boards.

Something like the Blade mCP X has some power to spare, but it harder to fly, less stable, pricier to fix and still not very big.

With a 250 size, you can start flying around a reasonable payload, but the machine itself is much harder to fly.

What kind of extra payload, if any, will your copter have to carry around?

Have you considered a quadcopter?

Thank you for the reply,

To answer your questions, as of this moment a video camera on the ground with tracking software and image recognition will be used. No, custom boards will be placed on the helicopter.

I think the blade mcx2 would be perfect but i was hoping for a cheaper alternative. I can see this thing getting damaged pretty easily.

Blade helicopters are more robust than they might seem. The new Blade Scout is only $49 but is only a 3 channel.

I don't have much experience with other small, cheap helis that are actually worth owning.
