Time to start thinking and planing for next year's event.
While this year is still fresh.
Suggestions and ideas welcome. Lets learn from this year and make next year even better!

I am looking at a few of dates. I would like some feedback.
They are August 31st through September 1st
Or September 7th and 8th or lastly September 14th and 15th 2012
At this point I am leaning a little towards the 7th and 8th.
But could use help.
I want conflict with other events as little as possible.

At the request of the MS Society OBD IV will September 7th and 8th 2012.
They asked for this date to allow the maximum amount of their staff to attend and be a part of the event.

I just received in the mail my copy of the MSconnection newsletter.
On page 4 is an article about the event with pictures!
I will try and find a way to post a copy of the article as soon as I can.

Unfortunatly, a lot of the Tulsa guys will not make it this year. Thats the same weekend as the Glue Dobbers War Bird event.
I counted 16 from the Tulsa area last year, you might get 5 this year.

What's the event schedule look like? IMHO, I think there should be more open flying and fewer demos. If there's more than a one hour slot around noon for the spectators, I tend to think it's too much demoing and not enough flying.

We are going to change the event dates. I talked to the MS Society.
The Bike MS event is set for Sept. 15 & 16, 2012 and they also said not labor day weekend.
So we need suggestions for a new date.

I would go with one of the next two weekends after the MS bike event. That way we get away from the heat of August, and the cold winds of late October.

What date can we use and not lose those pilots?
I dont want to lose anyone if we can avoid it!

Also we are going to have a new food vendor. he is planning on serving 3 meals a day during the fly in.

Would there be any interest in a possible lunch time demo by a full scale airplane? I have a possibility of either a Extra or Pitts being available for a short aerobatic routine. Nothing long. But before I pursue it. I want to be sure if it would be welcome or not?

We should probably have a planning meeting soon.
There is a lot to be decided on.
Should we do t shirts again? For instance. Anyone have feed back on having a full scale aerobatic display at lunchtime?

I have talked to Wes about this, but wanted to let others know. I will not be able to help with the Dust Bowl this year, my work situation is kicking my butt. (too much wholesale) I guess I should be grateful to have the work. At this point, I'm not sure I will even make it to the event.
Any way, that being said, Wes will need some help with donations, PR, organizing, and planning the event.

The biggest job will be contacting R/C manufacturers, and Hobby shops, and asking for donations. I did this with just emails. About 300 shops. I contacted each shop 2-4 times over a 6 month period. Start with the list of advertisers in the back of the R/C magazines. All of them have a web site, and contact page.

Another job would be to contact R/C clubs in Oklahoma, and the surrounding states, to let them know about the event, and invite them to join us. I didn't do to well at this one, I only contacted about 10 clubs, but I did hand out flyers at two of the biggest events in our area, and posted flyers at the local hobby shops. Find clubs on the AMA site, and the club page on R/C forums.

Another job would be to seek donations from large corporations. Businesses like to donate to non profits like the MS. Why? Because it's PR fuel, it makes them look like a saint, and above all, it's tax deductible. A win win for them, and us. It helps if you know someone who works there, so they can serve as a contact person/ice breaker.

Another Job would be to contact the media, news papers, radio, and television stations. News loves charity events. Just have them to your local field, talk about the event, the cause, give them some flyers, let them take some pictures, or video of you flying. Who knows, they might even cover the event.

At the event Wes will need a few people to work, just a few hours of your time will help. Jobs. Ground clean up, Registration, Raffle sales, Running the Raffle, Field Marshall, Safety Officer, MC, Parking Organizer, Photographer.
Some of these jobs Wes my already have covered, but any help would be welcome.

A job everyone can do, is to talk it up. Mention the event in your R/C forums, at your flying sites, at your local hobby shops, post flyers. etc...

If you have the time please step up and help.
This is your event, make it a good one!

If I do make it to the event, I will help in any way I can. I wish I could do more.
