SC'rs-
I'm about done building my last parkjet(Sea Dart) of the build season and have some time to get back to ole Nellie, my SC. Have the Emax 450 and custom motor mount sitting in front of me, a 40 AMP brushless esc on the way, have already modded the wheels and have floats in the waiting. She's also already on 2.4 futaba but I do need to mod the battery compartment. Now for the ailerons. Ready to cut them out but I thought I'd flatten the wing out a little first to take out some of the dihedral. Can this wing be flattened by applying some heat? I was going to hold it over the stove and then manualy try to apply pressure. I suppose when if do that, the stock plastic struts might be too long. Any advice on this? |

How I flattened mine was put packing tape on the ends and laid heavy books on it. Heating and setting books on it I think would do the same

Thanks Fish,
I haven't flown "Ole Nellie" since early last summer. How is the perfomance difference? Thinking with the Emax 450 and ailerons, she should have some zip even with the floats. I think I will install My Airfield RX and use the Airfield TX I got with the Cessna 182 RTF. Never used it. But I can only store 6 planes on the Futaba 6EX. -Hawk |

Be carefull how much heat you apply to the wings guy ,it may weaken the foam
at the center of the wing more than it looks like it has. I made a mini sail plane for my Daughter a few years ago and she ask me to take out some of the bend at the fuse. joint and I over did the heat a smidgen and she said it went crack-pow and came down in many small pieces !!!!! I felt bad for a long time because I never got enough of the right foam to build her another one since !! George |

Thanks George,
I'll be careful and not apply too much heat. Maybe just enough to help promote the re-shape and then use the heavy books as Fish has suggested. I can see where too much heat would be a problem. -Hawk |

Hey fellow HZ Super Cubsters,
I've now completed all the mods I plan on making to my SC/LP: It's now the Susan G. Komen " Fly for the Cure" Super Cub LP. Yes, Pink... Maybe I can get some ladies interested in RC- LOL Shhhh ! All Mods complete: - 2.4 - Brushless emax 480(2220/10) - 40amp Hurc esc - APC 10x5e - Bigger wheels- 2.5 Doobies - Battery box cut out (11v 2200mah 3S 30 C) - Ailerons - Colored 2mil packing tape I re-purposed an unused Airfield TX/RX combo I had laying around doing nothing. I also have the HZ floats thatI'll use for our June float-fly. Though I've advanced in skill level and added quite a few higher performing planes to my squadron in the last year, the SC/LP (Ole Nellie) will always have a place in my heart. -Hawk |

Thanks George,
As an old 1:1 pilot, I can still perform coordinated turns with ailerons and rudder. Re-maidened her on Saturday. Right before takeoff, going through my normal check list, I noticed one of the aileron horns that I had hot-gluded had come loose. Whew ! Close call. Went ahead and screwed it in like I should have done in the first place. Got her in the air and ran some circuits. Trimmed her out and she performed well. There were a few ladies hanging out near the field at the soccer field accross the road and came by to watch the pink plane flying around. So now, I'm going to place some lettering on the top of the wing: "Babe Magnet" LOL Have a good one ! Hawk |

Hey Fish,
No real good reason for the prop selection. Was following a rec from Headsuprc. Figured it would fly better than the stock 9x9. Ya think a bigger dia. prop with more pitch will perform better? Worth a try. I have the amps with the 40amp esc. Thanks for the tip ! Hawk |

Well I am not one to "pick up happy babies". "Flirting with disaster" uses a eflite 480 essentially the same as, yours I think. I use a 11x7 a lot of the times and I use the orginal size batteries that came with the stock SC (cant recall the size at this moment)I also like the way it jumps up into the sky with that prop so I can get CRAZY with it. Maybe the reason I break so many props LOL. If she flys the way you like it than by all means keep the prop you like. Know that you definitly can go up if you decide you want to

Thanks again Fish,
I'll give the 11 x 7 a try. Did notice with the added power, the take off roll is alot shorter than stock. Anxious to try the floats. Main reason I modded her out in the first place was for our June 3rd float fly on Grapevine Lake. Will the floats skid on grass? Might want to see how she performs in the air with floats attached. |

Well, it had to happen. The stock radio went for a dump yesterday, no throttle function, after 3 years of service.
So, what now? Replace the whole system? Or can one simply get a new receiver? Fact is, I never liked, nor trusted, the 27 MHz, lots of interference, the occasional glitch. Recommendations? |

Hm. I didn't realise that the system was on 27 until after I bought it, and buying a new system will certainly hit the pension check unless I do some scrimping for a couple of months...
Checked with my LHS (finally found a good one!), and he will have a new rcvr for under thirty bucks. Then I will look around for a new system for it. The Cub is my go-to model while my other ones are under repair or construction. Thanks for the perspectives guys. |

I got a brushed esc on Ebay for around 13.00-14.00 shipped. I am running the stock motor and gearbox but I switched to a 3s 2200mah 40c lipo. It has more power than it could ever need for a high wing trainer...it can do loops, rolls, inverted flight...ect. here is the link for the esc... http://www.ebay.com/itm/TURNIGY-20am...item41625c3f1d good luck, Greg |

I bought the emax BL 480 from www.Headsuprc 40 amp Hurc ESC . Added ailerons and use a knock-off orange rx for my Futaba 6EX. All is good. My SC has some getty-up ! Have the floats and she's now ready for our upcoming float fly.
