For starters, I suggest making sure there are no motor mount bolts protruding through the firewall which could puncture a battery installed directly behind the firewall. This one seems obvious, but is often overlooked, What else can you suggest? |

I am trying to think of anything else - but actually don't think much will be relevant. The energy is so high in a crash - that even a flat firewall will/can cause the cells to rupture.
Minor crashes I think you are on the right track with bolts/screws, nuts and such out of the way of the pack. Sorry about the field. ![]() Mike |

Guess you could put the battery is some sort of impact proof box lined with foam or similar.. If airliners can build 'black boxes' that protect electronics in the event of crashes/ fireballs/ submersion in deep oceans with impact speeds of several hundred mph then it should be possible to make a crash proof lipo box?
Weight would of course be the BIG problem ![]() Steve |

Alternatively just accept that the battery might get damaged and maybe burst into flame but you put the battery inside flame proof pouch (similar to a LiPo bag) ? .. That might at least give some protection.

Yeah, that's an interesting idea. I wonder if anybody has tried that?
