If you're like building then ithas only gotten better. Balsa kits are cut much cleaner now (especially the laser ones), and there are a lot of other materials to make planes out of now too.
If you don't like building, well there are a lot of other choices too, from any stage of complete to snap on the wing, charge and fly. Of course, you wallet still suffers - a litle... ![]() Posted via Mobile Device |

Welcome Raaf
Don't really read the Oz forum much, as 99% of my Wattflier time is spent in the main (U.S) forum. The reason being that the local one sems pretty dead most of the time, and replies to posts primarily come from overseas. Still, great to see another Aussie out there flying . Have you got a plane yet, joined a club, scratch/kit builder or out of the box, flown R/C, free flight, control line, before etc, etc ?? Let us know how it is going

We got wiped out in the 2011 floods here in Queensland so I lost all my stuff. Been making Balsa models for years but a friend recently showed me his large scale RC aircraft and loving aircraft I started to get an interest in RC - Never flown except on my computer trainer (and not to well there either). Have a Flightzone Super Cub to learn on but still familiarizing myself with the Transmitter. I am also putting together a UAV - Predator kit to familiarize my self with the nitty gritty. Eventually want to build and fly a Bristol Beaufort.
Thanks for the message :-) |

![]() At any rate, welcome to the wattflyers, and be sure to ask any questions that you might have. (The only dumb question asked is the one asked after burning something up!) For every question asked, there are likely to be 50 other watt flyer readers that were afraid to ask the same question. Every one of us was a newbie in this electric stuff at one time. |

What a bummer losing everything You'll get some great advice here on getting airborne, and I'm sure there is a club or group of casual fliers not too far from where you are. The Super cub sounds like the way to go as a trainer, as are planes like the Easystar and such. Where did you get your Predator from? Built a couple of piggy back UAV's myself, and they can be a little twitchy with throttle response, but any kind of build is always a good learning experience The Bristol Beaufort sounds like a great project down the track, and with modern electrics, twins are much more straight forward than building glo powered ones. I'm sure you will paint it with RAAF colours too . On a purely practical note, if you can get hold of a tough EPP glider to get to grips with trimming, orientation and aerodynamics, it will be a real bonus. Nothing wrong with simulators, but nothing beats experience. Good luck with what ever way you go, cheers .....

Hi, I received a great link to a beginners scratch build from pistnbroke and I think I will have a go at building it. It is made from 6 mm depron foam and should be a bit cheaper to learn on
.It's taken us almost two years to get back on our feet but now it is time to play ![]() I have already received some very helpful advice and look forward to enjoying my new hobby. The Beaufort is the aircraft my father flew in the Pacific during World War two and I am really looking forward to the day I can put together the aircraft D UV A9-676 in his memory. I got my predator Predator from Ebay Australia for $79AU. Not a bad kit but is a bit shoddily finished. Given I haven't got the experience to fly it, ultimately I don't think the finish will matter ? cheers .....

Hi raaf. I'm not too far from you, between Helidon and Grantham. I didn't know this regional forum was here till today. Don't know how so many folk can read so many postings unless they sit at their puter all day. I spend too much time on it but never get to read it all. Anyways, good to see a local on here. PS I'm retired too. (maybe just tired)

How did you fair in the floods ? We were wiped out but your area was smashed. Hope you were spared. I have been into aircraft all my life but a friend - Nev Vogler got me interested in RC and now I am building etc - mind you I can't fly :-} 1 maiden 1 pile of busted foam - so far - I'll get there :-) Regards Mick |
