Well guys I finaly cleared my bench and started the Gentle Lady 2m last night so I will be a buisy pup fore a while now !
I am building the plane as a DIY so it is going to take me a long time to make the parts and build with them , this is the first time I am doing a sailplane by scratch !
I must have bumped my head multiple times excessively hard - I found out I can still get the kit for the plane -Dha ?
Wish me luck and send lots of asprin please !!

Hi George Buy the kit, use it for a template, it will be a lot easier to trace the ribs onto balsa that way and you will have a back up plane/parts, the gentle lady is a very nice glider, E Power it and give it a folding prop, I built a 2 meter Wander from a kit, dang, there must have been a Million ribs in that kit or at least it seemed that way, that glider took me forever to finish it but it came out nice, back then i used a cox 049 on a power pod, rubber band to the wing to get it airborn, that glider taught me how to fly RC, I cant count the number of cart wheels i did trying to land when learning rc Take care and have fun, Chellie

I am used to building planes from scratch kido, so I most likely will be able to bild it
well enough to fly when I get done but never claime to know every thing about anything !?!?
Thank you for any advice you pass along Mam !!
I found one plane kit for this bird on line but got out bid at the last second
and have not found another close to home yet so I don't want to let to much time slip by befor I get some progress in on this build !

Hi All,

At the time of writing this, I am / was about 60% into the build of a Polaris (Steve Shumate plans). I did the most stupid thing, I glued the spars into the foam and went to the shed to clean off the excess with glue with methylated spirits.......... I pick up the wrong bottle........ turpintine! I was absolutely gutted as the foam just melted away.

Back to the cutting board tonight..........what an idiot!

Regards
Ian

Oops!

I'm pretty sure we've all melted a little foam from time to time.

Chellie Thank you for that info Mam !!!!
I am already making parts by copying the plan by hand on my lite table so I can cut them out useing the copy made on copying paper -the old onion skin paper -if you
heard that name you give away your age ?!
So I will do this plane that way and then try to find the kit later on , I plan to make 4 other copies of this bird for family members so I will have a lot of time to to put in
on the builds -hopefully this will keep me out of trouble for a while ?!!
P-n-B
Sorry to hear that guy ! But M.C is right about we all do that at least once ,I used the wrong cyno on a small clg a few squars back and watched it dissapear in a blob
of melted foam as I was in shock and could not move -I forgot that water would stop the reaction if I would have dumped some on it quick .

I was watching a friend walk out to the runway carrying his plane by the top with a big four cycle motor in it . I had just walked up or i would have carryed it for him. The motor started to cough(to rich ) so he lifted the transmitter to his mouth and tryed to bump the throttle up a little ,but he has a big space between his teeth and the stick got stuck between his teeth and it went to full throttle while he was trying to get it out going around and around out on the middle of the paved runway.lmao I ran out and got ahold of the tail while he was still spinning around and then i pulled off the fuel hose off to the carb and it died while he was still trying to get the stick out of his teeth. It scared me at first but after he got the stick out and everything was fine we both busted up laughing . joe

After a bit of swearing and calling myself everything under the sun, I am back and more advanced with the build now and hope to be complete by the weekend 1/12/12. The only drama I have now is a colour scheme, which I am not good at, as long as it flies well!

I was using my wing boubler for a spacer just untill the top sheeting could dry but i forgot about pulling it out so when i tried to get it out a hour later it was a no go. The doubler was only 75 percent into the wing when it dried so i hope it was far enough cause thats the way its flying now. Whats worse is its a 3-d plane and the G forces might take its toll .lmao Nice plane crash ,have you flown it yet ? joe

Did the maiden of the Sportster this morning and she flew great.
I didn't do anything too dangerous but i got her all adjusted up and did some loops and rolls. The landing was in the snow covered driveway and she nosed over and loosened the
engine mount but no biggie. It is all ready to go again tomorrow morning.

Always test the foam and glue to make sure they like each other Not all glues can be used with all foams, same goes for Spray Paints, I like using testors foam safe spray Enamel on foam, it works great, wish they would sell it in bigger cans
