Default House of Balsa Super Decathlon

Here is my Super Decathlon from House of Balsa. I built it around 10 years ago and it flys pretty good and is a good aerobatic trainer. Orginally for like a .10 gas engine. It has a Graupner 500R motor with a 2100 lifepo4 pack with a 7x4 apc prop. This gets you around 17oz of thrust for a 31oz plane. It doesn't have too many flights on it but I'll be flying more this year. I It really lacks looking like a scale model with no realistic windows but its still fun to fly. The wing broke doing snap rolls but it was my fault for altering the build up and trying to save weight.

I worked on the tail to fix some warpage because I didn't use the wood that came in the kit and drilled to many holes weakening it. So the heavier wood that came in the kit went back on the plane.

Made a new video. Its at the top of the page with a new photo. I got a new motor on order but its flying better now at least. I tried to fly closer to the camera without crashing. It doesn't roll on me now when I climb.

Thanks. It still doesn't have that much thrust though. Only like 20oz compared to 17oz with the graupner. Think I'll remove some lead from the front as it seemed a little nose heavy and maybe try a 7x7 prop before I raise the voltage..........

It sure looked good to me.Seemed like it had plenty of power.

Where do you fly?Looks like Ca.or Az.?

My Caliph is finished, gets launched on Fri.It should be above freezing by then and less windy. That's Florida for ya.

Its in Ca. at the bottom of a lake. I have to get all my flying in before the snow melt. Big drought right now so may get to fly all year. So which motor did you choose for the Caliph?

I tried a 7x7 prop. Not much different then the 7x6 but I think I got a 2mph gain, 84mph.
