I work with N-scale trains as I don't have much room in my money pit for the villages !
The last one I did is sitting in my shed waiting another 1/2 -it is only 5' X 28" x3 levels that in cludes an fig. 8 and mining spur on a top level and a yard in the lower loop of the 8
I don't know where I would put the other 1/2 cause my shed is mostly full of lumber for the wood shop and a ton of storage boxes the wife is keeping because her Mother is 83 and Pat thinks she is going to pass over any day now but I told her that Mom will most likely out live us !
Back to planes I have been putting up the Christmass decs. and am just now getting back to the Sailplane and trying to ge my camera working !!
Will be buisy with those things and a couple of HLGs for the grandsons for same holiday !!

Awesome looking STOL foamy. I noticed that the flaperons were in a reflex/spoiler position in a couple of shots. Would like to know how that was programmed and how it was determined to use spoilflaperons.

That was a very nicely done video!! I loved the belly shots with the skis just skimming the snow. Good flying too!

I dont know in his case but I can tell you why I use spoilerons at times.

They are mainly good for two things.

1) Killing lift so you can descend quickly at a steep angle with the nose UP. Using flaps you usually end up coming down with more of a nose down angle - if you're in a hurry. Also, there is no tendency for the model to balloon the way they often do when you apply flaps at speed. Its actually possible to descend steeper and slower using spoilerons and a high angle of attack (and a tad of power) than with flaps - a harrier landing in other words.

2) They are also good for flying very high AOA maneuvers - harriers for example are generally easier to do with some spoileron dialed in. I tend to mix spoileron with up elevator and flaps with down elevator for doing flips, harriers, tumbles and other 3D stuff. They can also sometimes help with snap rolls and spins.

Moving the flaps/spoilerons up or down changes the camber line of the wing - in effect changing the angle of attack that you're flying at without having to change the angle of the entire model.

DaHawk the flying is great but you like to get to close to buildings - that I would not dare for myself !
Is that plane a DIY or did you have a plan to work from ?

I wish I could say that was me flying but if God wanted Texans to ski, he would have painted Cow#$%^ white ! I simply passed along a youtube from a guy I subscribe to. Very nice plane, hey?

For starters, you need a tx with enough channels to assign each servo to its own separate channel. Then you need enough built-in and free mixes to get the programing to work the way you want. It takes a fairly nice tx to do it. You might be able to do it with a DX7, but Im not sure. I fly Futaba

if you have a Futaba or JR/Spektrum tx - both have programming examples for different txs on their web sites.

threw this one together last night. made the fuselage from a 1 inch thick pink insulation sheet Home Depot was selling in 2x2 feet sections. The battery was mounted on the centerline by hollowing out a bay for it and securing by velcro straps. Also carbon reinforced wings, tail, and fuselage. 2212-6 motor running on 40c 3S 2200mah and 30amp ESC with 5.25x4.75 APC prop. I haven't flown her yet obviously, but when i powered up she can hang in the air so thrust seems to be 1:1 should have good vertical climb. The elevons really seem powerful when I moved them around at full throttle the plane wanted to really push in that direction. I had some old vertical stabilizers from a crashed F-15 so i just angled cut them to mount them more like an F-22 thought it was a good way of recycling some old parts.

I won't have the money for a new Tx for more than a year so I won't be able totry that for a while but thank you for the info guy .

Nice jet scoote ,iam still building a foam das canard stick but with the holidays here its a pain to get anything done on my planes . Here it is just taped for the picture and some wing construction pics but nothing done on it in a week now. This is what i get for having 5 children and now 14 grandkids. lol

I need to find a good source of cheap depron i am thinking of the 6mm range. I have used dollar tree foam and foam from the hobby store that has a thin plasticy nylon coating on top but my issue with that foam is that it only comes in sheets like 30 inches long by like 12 inches wide so you have to tape them together to make wider sheets. I want something larger and that does not come with any coating on it so i can start making some actual shaped planes rather than the profile stuff more easily. I found a few sites online but the foam seems rather pricey.

From what i here from other builders its nice flat stuff with very little waves ,i must spend hours sanding the waves out of $tree foam but its cheap . I will order some mpf and use $tree foam for the inside stuff and save the mpf for the outside of fuse and wing. joe

Not sure why anyone would feel the need to sand out the waves on DT foam board since that side can be on the inside, or bottom side of a build. The waves are so shallow they seem to have no influence on the craft and I have even used the waves to advantage by placing them in line with the airflow over a wing, or fuselage. Sort of a WW1 canvas covering look.

I leave the ones on the wing and other parts to look like ribs but the fuse i try toget smooth as much as i can . I am getting good at sanding the nast little waves out but flat stuff would be better for me. joe

I have a tone of D.T. foam here but unless I am going blind I don't see any waves in my stock foam and have not had any trouble with this foam , I have not built a lot of foam planes yet but have goten good planes from it so far !
