I have a eflite extra 260 with a Park 480 1020 kv, 40 amp pro BEC and 12x6 apc prop, whit 3s lipo, my plane runs like a dream, but searching in the web i founded the 910 kv motor, i wondering if the 910 kv is a better setup? Which is the purpose of producing two versions? Regards and happy holidays! |

Do not Judge, or you too will be Judged. For in the same way you Judge others, you will be Judged, and with the same measure you use, it will be measured to You.

The 910 will have less power on 3s but you might be pushing that already a 12x6 is a pretty big prop for those motors.

Yes, 12x6 is too much prop for either of those motors but especially so the 1020Kv. Unless you are using a old/low rated LiPo whose voltage is sagging then you must be pulling far more amps than the motor is rated for. It must be burning up!
A 10x6 would be more like it. E-flite's specifications are misleading because they tell you are range of props and a range of battery types (2s and 3s) but what they don't tell you is that you must never use the largest prop with the highest voltage battery. the large prop can only be safely used with a 2s battery. |

Mmm 12x6 is fine, i never burned a eflite motor.
A lot of people use this prop and Park 480 in the eflite extra 260 w/o problem, the motor after 7 min reach 40 Celsius. For 3D is fine, i think if i use this prop on a warbird or heavier plane, 12x6 isn't good idea, but the extra weight is 800 g and runs fine. I think 4s in a park 480 is too much. Regards! |

have you ever put a Wattmeter on it? The motors max rating is I think 28Amps for a short burst, less for continuous

Oh yes, 30 amp full TH static, in the air I think the real value is less.
For 3d I only need short burst of full power, the most time is mid throttle regimen. Eflite motors are a bit under rated I think, I never heard about burned eflite motor. Regards! |

Anyway. back to your original question.. the 910Kv motor using the same prop should pull a few less amps but the efficiency should be a bit better so power to the prop might not be much different. |
