Thank you sir. I have been slowly making my way to flying. I figured I would stay with a mini heli but that isn't lasting long lol. Now I'm learning what I can so I can move to a bigger one and planes. I have 10 RC's and keeps growing. Go figure. Just wishing my friend would get done with his lading pad so I can have more electronics lol.

Hello, I was referred here by people at rc universe. i was told this is a fantastic ressource for electric flight, and based on these forums, quite true.
I am looking for information on converting an electric plane and to build a kit and power it electrically.I will make posts for these questions of course. Happy new year to all! |

The reason I ask is that your existing radio, whatever it is, and rx would be fine, I built a SU-27 Foamie profile pusher parkjet and have attached a pic below. I have made an F-15, F4 Phantom, Seadart, and a few F-22's as well. With the exception of the Seadart(6mm depron), they were all cut from Dollar Tree foam. The patterns all had cut outs for the servo's. I simply hot glue them in place. Used Htx 900's (9g) you can buy from HK or Nicco. Used Grayson Hobby Motor/esc combos's on all of them. The V2, the V3 and the Super V2(2200-2500kv). Used 6 x4 MAS and/or APC e props on all of them. The RX and Esc get mounted on the bottom side with velcro. For the radio, Chellie's selection sounds good but I'd personally opt for 2.4 for the future ![]() Good Luck ! -Hawk |

Hi All
I'd just pulled my Kyosho Valencia out of the closet. It was my first attempt at electric flight. I was never successful at a ground launch with it. I suspect it was a motor adjustment, looking at it now. I'd flown slope gliders for a number of years but family requirments have slowed that down. I'd gotten the Kyosho when I was first learing slope. Later I did launch it by hand on the slope and tried the motor but just left it for other days. Now, I'm hoping to get it working well enough for my son to learn on. I see that things have advance quite a bit. Looking at brushless motors and all. The batteries for the motor are shot but surprisingly the transmitter and reciever are taking a charge fine and are holding. I probably hadn't used them last in 12-15 years. Flier Dwight |

Sarge,
This is the new member welcome thread. Not really the best place to ask this question. I suggest you do a search on Orange or Orange RX and see what you find but in general foam does not interfere with 2.4 GHz signals. |

Greetings all!!! I fly 50 and 100cc gas planes and decided to give electric a real try. Being a complete newbie to electrics and have absolutely no clue about it, I have a big learning curve. Look forward to the challenge!!!

Welcome to Wattflyer.
Those are some big planes you are flying. Do you plan to stay with giant scale or are you looking to move down in size in electric? This is the link I send everyone to when they are first getting into electric. EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT ELECTRIC POWERED FLIGHT http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31368 |

Hi Aeajr
Thanks for the welcome. I will be using the electric, an EF MXS-EXP 48" to help learn various 3D tricks. Find it a little dicey with the 50cc. Thanks for the link. Now I have to learn how to equip the plane. |

+1 on Ed's guide ! I keep it on my nightstand next to the Bible. 100CC? Holey Moley. I saw an 11ft WS 3D plane with a 120 a few months ago and I thought I had seen it all. Weighed 43lbs. $10K he had wrapped up in that one. I would think to get something using a 100cc motor off the ground would require a very big electric motor/200amp esc and a huge lipo, like a 12S. I once had a Honda 65 which is pale in comparison.
Welcome and best of luck ! -Hawk |
