Let me see what I can figure out with my schedule and what the Mrs. has planned. Another reason flying from the yard is so nice. I can just stop what I am doing, pop in the battery and get in 5-10 mins of relaxation, then go back to whatever it was while the battery recharges.

One qq, and I don't want to start a whole off topic threadjack, but what is the stance on flying with you guys, AMA membership required? Or is this just a bunch of guys gathering together? Other than the airport I flew at, all my flying is done at home. If I run into a car, it's mine.

I'm an AMA member since 2009 and I guess there's suppose to be a club here here. I went toe meeting and that was it. They never fly with me and I never see them. I didn't join the club because the site they fly at is on private property and did not sound at all very good. I don't know why I never see any of them at the Fair Grounds. As far as I'm concerned that's fine but it would be nice to have some good company once in awhile. There used to be a couple locals that flew with me. One moved and the other gave up on it.
One guy that actully started the thread moved to SAT and has dropped off the radar completely. My other buddy lives in Copperas Cove as I mentioned and hopefully he'll make it this weekend. Later...gotta do some work on the SNJ and maybe a Gee Bee Y. Dick |

Boy that thing looks nice. You got me searching for the FMS P51D model. Where did you purchase that one if you don't mind me asking?
I am still trying to get out there to meet up. My weekends just seem to fill up unfortunately. |

Banana has had a really bad rep so a lot of people are ordering from Philip at PWRC. I've delt with him on several occasions and he is hands down one of the best customer service guys in the business. If there's a problem he'll stand by it and his email communication is quick to mention the least. I think he must have his bed set up next to his computer. If you're looking for the P-51D latest version 7, I think Banana is the only source however. I have spent the last few hours reading up on them, and then looking at the various places you mentioned above. Seems that the two other than Banana have shipping charges from about $60 to $85. OUCH. It's really nice, but I don't think I want to pay that kind of shipping charges.
I got in some great flying today around the house. Got my own airshow as well. I am close to a glider field so I saw a number of them flying around today. Had some aerobatic looking planes flying in formation over the house. Two of them met up with another two and they were practicing their formation flying. Then there's a T6 Texan that comes and does aerobatics over a neighbors place. The same neighbor owns a Stearman and flew over the house with it this afternoon. It was a pretty fun day to be outside. |

Yeah, I agree the shipping charges are hard to accept. I plan on getting "DALLAS DARLING" maybe after Banana Hobby get's them in only because I expect shipping will be cheaper. However so many people have had issues with them I share some of the sentiment they have, in that the shipping from PWRC is worth the fact Philip will stand by anything - no questions asked. So it's like insurance. I still plan on waiting for a while though.
Sounds like you had a great day....I went out Friday and yesterday but winds came up and I came home. I've been trying to maiden a Maxford Gee Bee Y with modified V1.1 fuse to a V2.1 wing. I flies but the CG was too far aft and right wing is dropping. I removed some weight from the tail but can't figure why the wings won't fly level. It's probably due to the wing incidence not being symetrical or something goofy. It used to be the best flying plane I've had up until it went in one day. take care, Dick |

Mike,
Here's the info on the Travel Air Mystery ship - http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items...ELA-58AAF.html It really looks like a very well designed plane and similiar in assembly to the HL Gee Bee Dick edit: I just got off the phone and backordered it - you don't have to pay anything until the order comes in and they call to confirm it. All spare parts are available through Troybuilt Models too I talked to "Bill" - he was really good guy and the one that does all their product purchasing. He said they expect to be arriving in May. |

The tailweel is ready to install but I want to connect the tailwheel and rudder together and no clue how to do that yet. I've been posting on RC Universe and hoping to gain some advise there but nothing yet....
Once the tailwheel is done I can move on to installing some lights and landing gear doors. |

Taking a little break on the SNJ and started building up anoter Maxford USA Gee Bee Y. Still a very pretty plane.....and the first one was the best flyer in the hanger till she went in.
Maybe some pics coming soon. Dick |

Hey gang, sorry I haven't stopped by in a while.
Dick, as usual your scale skills are a thing of beauty. You truly can take an ARF 3 levels above any manufacturers' wildest dreams. Thanks for the pictures! Really looking forward to flying with you again. ![]() I know a while ago you posted the A-Main link for the P-51, but I went ahead and got the Hangar 9 .50 F4 for $119. I have been looking for a corsair for a while. Mike, I hope things are going great for you and the family. What all is in your hangar these days? |

I got up just before sunrise to take advantage of the forcaste 5-10 mph winds. Unfortunately it wasn't that great due to crosswind components, and some unexpected gusts. But I did manage to fly what I brung. Although mostly the Super Cub, but the Spitty flew and I maidened the Gee Bee - just barely.
As it turned out the Gee Bee had no power and I was barely able to get it back in one piece. During the process I thought the prop was incorrect but after I got it down I realized the battery was out of juice..... ![]() The stock "GEE BEE" Decal was way too big so I reduced it and also made up the rest of tail section detail that Maxford should have included but didn't. It looks so much better. You can see the diff between my first orig build and what the full scale plane looked like. Dick |

They came to this loc a few times but must not have done that well. As a note, a friend of mine was barnstorming his orig 1930 biplane at the same time and I got the feeling they resented having to share the attention.

The rare plane in this group at the Temple TX location (today through Friday) is the flying Me-262.
Its not one you will get many chances to see. And it is only going to be at about half of this group's "events." The bombers and P-51 are not anywhere near as rare. They aren't advertising it very well... No radio or TV announcement at all. |

I just finished repairing some damaged Gee Bee Y wheel pants and waiting for the paint to dry. They aren't perfect but will look much better than without.....final pics to be posted following. What an attractive little airplane.
