You cannot attain 9 volts with a lipo battery. A lipo battery will have 3.7 volts per cell nominal and 4.2 volts fully charged. Thus, a 2 cell lipo fully charged would be 8.4 volts. A 3 cell lipo would be 12.6 volts fully charged. Your light system might work on 8.4 volts (although not as well as 9 volts). I wouldn't try it on 12.4 volts.

You'd have to use some sort of voltage regulator with a 3-cell.

To calculate the resistor value, it would be resistor value equals (12 Volts minus 9 volts) divided by the current. Example, if its 0.02 amperes, R=3/.02 or R=150 ohms. It's not critical, but don't go much below that 150 ohms. Then when you've got the resistor soldered in series, hook up the battery and again measure the current pulled. It should be close to the current off of your 9 volt battery. |

Once again guys thanks for you input. I realized that if i used a lipo i would probably run it down below 3v per cell by accedent so what i did was hook up a 1200 mah nimh batt at it wooks great.

Yeah, I wondered about that, those old Nih cells really work well for this type of thing. They're rather hard to damage.
