That's nice to hear! Helpful hobby shop owners seem few and far between. I've come across a few owners that seem more interested in giving beginners a bunch of attitude than to make a sale. Why is that? (Or maybe it's just a NJ/NY thing...)

I've found that to some extent. I have a couple of local hobby shops that I visit near Harrisburg. Kranzel's Hobbies has two guys who are very helpful, but they are more geared toward RC cars. Hidden Hanger Hobbies is RC airplane intensive, but it depends on who is working as far as helpfulness goes. One guy is very outgoing and helpful. Another seems very grumpy.
HeadsUpRC.com has won me over as a customer. I've emailed Jeff on a handful of occasions. He has always responded within an hour. I've asked him about ESC/motor/servo combos and he puts together a nice package based on the info given. His prices are very reasonable. Not only is HeadsUp a source of parts, but a resource of information, too! That combined with prompt and generous customer service makes them my choice from here on! (This is not a paid endorsement, I am an actual customer)

I can't think of a more excellent hobby shop to purchase from than HeadsUp R/C and I have ordered from many many hobby companies.
They are really fast with their service and advice and give actual data on their products with their own tests on the merchandise. When I got a dead LIPO (it happens to even careful people like HeadsUp) they replaced it without asking for the dead battery-an amazing act of trust and service. Their shipping rate of 2 bux is fantastic for the small parts orders I place and their shipping is just a few dollars more for complete airplane kits! Perhaps when word gets around, the bigger hobby companies will be more customer oriented instead of trying to squeeze every dollar from the customer with inflated prices or inflated shipping and poor service.

I placed my order with HeadsUpRC at 10:42 a.m. this morning. Received the "Order Shipped" message at 11:07 a.m. this morning. 25 minutes from order placed to order shipped! (And shipped for $2!)

And while we're at it, the FirePower 46 Sport *ROCKS*! An amazing motor for a 50"-class 3D plane.

The power up and firepower motors are listed by sizes. Makes them very easy to know which ones to look at for a specific model.
I've had 3 HURC series motors, 1 firepower series, and about 4 power up motors now. I haven't played with the others because I find the size and power I want in these motors with the right weight for my model. I actually am going to be running a power up 480 plus motor on my slow stick. Looking for about 350 watts and 50-55oz of thrust on 2 3 cells ran in parrelel on this setup. Haven't finished it well enough to hook up the watt meter yet. |
