Help please (noob)
I have a couple of questions regarding my new radio control plane. (I haven't received it yet, but it's coming next week)
I have purchased a VMAR Stinger (yes, I have seen that the old ones were crap, but hopefully this one will be ok!)
The plane is listed as needing a .40 ~ .52 two stroke engine, but with the advancements in LiPo technology, it is my plan to reconfigure it as electric.
Now is where it gets a little confusing....
The plane (basically a balsa/ply trainer) has a wing span of 160cm, is just over a meter long, and weighs 2.81kg as a rolling chassis, with no electrics or servos.
I have looked at what electric motors are equivalent to the above internal combustion engines, and got really, really confused....
Can anyone knowledgeable in these things give me some help please, or point me in the right direction, as, at the moment, I am thinking of a 4000kv motor with 60A esc, and 11.1v 2200mAh batteries.
My first question is, according to some sites, that is miles above and beyond the .52 nitro motor it'll be replacing, and other sites start talking 20c and 30c (discharge rates?) and other voodoo.
I'm looking to get 20mins or so flight time (not at constant 100% throttle) for a plane weighing less than 3.5kg flying weight. (I'd prefer to over-power, as it gives more opportunity to recover from stalls etc, but not at the expense of run time.
Please, if you can offer some advice on this, I would really appreciate it, but I ask that, please, if you have an opinion on the plane I'm buying, or think I should get something else etc – I have already bought it, so I respectfully ask you don't detract from this thread with that sort of info.
I'm also looking at servos, as I will apparently need 5 of them.
I am going to be using the NASA701 2.4ghz controller with the 3axis gyro receiver (spare from my chopper)
I have looked at metal gear servos, but I'm guessing I'll need small 9g servos for the ailerons?
I would just like to get all this ready before the plane arrives.
Any suggestions on motor mount?
