Default top flight mini-contender

after throwing a few batteries through this plane, over all I'm a bit disappointed. it flies well, but compared to my mini ultra stick, id say it flies very similar with a lot more weight. ready to fly weight was 34oz with a 2200 3 cell.

the rudder bugs me. it almost seems to have a mind of its own. I find it almost impossible to make a coordinated turn, stall turns require throttle, and It rolls with any rudder input.

don't get me wrong, it flies well, I love trike gear and takeoff and touch n goes are a blast, but short of that, its a basic low wing sport plane. I hoped it would be more of a pattern plane or had enough throws to 3d it a bit.

slow stock prop reversal. it flies! easily! 543 watt dual motor bipe slow stick. push-me-pull-you. 242 watt 3 channel slow stick. 365 watt mini ultra stick. 415 watt mini contender. 810 watt ultra stick .25e. 220 watt alpha 450 sport (retired).

That is for sure a Contender characteristic - likely due to the flat as a board flat wing.

Ignore rudder - it is a brilliant yank and bank.

I think it needs a better rudder. it needs more defection area lower. I'm tempted to cut the rudder off and build my own. now I sorta wish I wouldn't have glued in nylon hinges.

I just spent the last hour putting my slow stick back together rather then taping the cowl back together. if I brought both this plane and my mini ultra stick out, id be inclined to leave the mini contender in the back seat.

I think you are fighting a losing battle - it is a well-know Contender trait. It would help to have the rudder area lower but again - it is a great yank and bank.
