The red is from a biodegradeable fire retardant chemical added to the water... it rinses right off the car.
Odd fact: AFFF foam chemical used by the navy is considered useful as an emergency food source.
For real? So if I run out of food I can chug-a-lug some AFFF, what us Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting folks call "triple F". Cool - have at least 200 gallons in the fire barn, and another 200 on board my E-1 Titan crash truck.
I didn't think the retardant was toxic, (it is California after all...) just I've seen some videos of much smaller water drops that smashed small structures. Guess they just caught the start of this drop or it was one of those that was a slower, spread out one. Now that I think of it, it was really hot. It might have been a bit refreshing!
Now I'd like to see a video of that super tanker skimming a lake for a water pickup!
