Last year we had lots of flying, good weather, great prizes and FUN!!
Hope you can make it!
Hi Keith, good to hear from you! We're not having the Heli competition this year but you're welcome to bring yours and "Sport Fly", pretty sure there'll be others, too. Don't forget the "Swap" meet, anything you're not flying or using anymore...
See you there!
The 2nd Annual RMEF Fun Fly was held June 24th...although at first it didn't look like we would be doing any flying Saturday! The weather at 6:00 AM was overcast, gray skies, cool and very windy. Slowly the skies cleared, the winds died down and by 9:00 the sun came out. So did the electric flyers, over 100 modelers, vendors, spectators and families showed up to take part.
Jerry and the gang from Vision Hobbies LLC made the trip with a trailerful of models and put on quite a show. The large-scale Ultimate bipe and CAP stopped traffic with a full aerobatic routine and their big Warbirds flew just as well. Thanks, Guys!
Steve from Mile Sky Hobbies provided displays of huge PJS- equipped models and lots of speciality supplies including custom motor mounts.
The "Stryker Pylon" event proved to be a popular new addition, Kenny T (from UFO's) won with a very quick model, Stacy R was 2nd and Frank D came in 3rd, including an inverted lap! The pylons were built by RMEF's George F from plans off "RC-Pylonworld", 17' tall and wind-proof.
"Slow Stick Precision" run by Travis M had a good turnout, Frank D won 1st, Tim H came in 2nd, Bert P was 3rd.
"LMR Glider" had a mixed bag of entries; Since it was open to any plane or motor, Travis entered his AXI-powered twice-sized Sparky and won first place...what a glide! 2nd place was Stacy R flying a brushless Simple 400, the 30 second climb put his model nearly out-of-sight. 3rd place was Kyle G flying a "real" glider, there were also "Strykers" and "E-Starters" competing.
"Limbo" provided the most fun, Doug P's brushless "E-Starter" made it down to the 5' mark but then snagged the streamer and flew off with it! Is this "combat"? 2nd place was another E-Starter flown by Stacy, the event was won by Jim E, flying a built-up 3D model. All his passes, including the 4' were made inverted (double points), nice flying!
"Warbird Limbo" only had 2 entries, Bert won and Marty M came in 2nd.
There was sport flying between each event, micro helis, powered gliders, ducted fans, Old Timers, large-scale models.
Lots of great prizes, thanks to;Colpar Hobbies, Electroflying LLC, Hobbytown USA, Medusa Research, Mile Sky Hobbies, Quiet Flyer, SIG Mfg Co., Thompsons Hobbies, UFO's, and Vision Hobbies LLC. Thank you all!
It wouldn't have happened without our volunteers, CD George B, George F, Travis, Bill B, Art (Lefty) Stacy, Chuck C, all the RMEFer and AAMers. Great Fun!!! See you next year?
First time attending an E-event. Good showing.
My Dad and I fly glow, We are members of Mile Hi R/C, Wanted to see more E stuff.
Talked with the vendors and got some good ideas for a conversion to a 40.size Ultra stick.
Thanks to the guys at the Arvada club, well run event, Great raffle prizes.
I want to thank you and all of the volunteers that made this event a success. We traveled many miles to attend and found everyone friendly and helpful. This made the trip worthwhile.
Thanks for the kind words about the Ultimate and Cap. I flew the Ultimate and Kyle flew the Cap. (Kyle is only 13 years old and flies like a pro!) We love flying these big birds and are all glad that the other fliers and spectators enjoyed watching.
I hope to see you next year and maybe I then can enter some of the events!
It was a great time having guys with so much infomation to share with others, this is what makes theses events wonderful to go to.If it didnt make the gassers think a little diffrent about battery power, then to find out Kyle was flying and not the spotter was just the best.
Thank you all very much for making the drive, and all you donations and support!!!! Glad to see you made it home OK
I am already looking forward to getting back to CO next year and fly with you guys. Can't wait!
Right now, my club (Knight Flyers Electric RC Club) is starting to plan a two day electric fly-in in the Phoenix area this October. I will keep everyone posted as information becomes available. I thought about calling it the Fall Electric Aircraft Rendezvous (FEAR)
So...get ready to head to Phoenix for a little "Fun In The Sun" this October!
Hi Jerry, good to hear from you. It was great meeting your bunch at the "Fun Fly" and the planes you brought were outstanding! Even the jaded glow flyers noticed and they were flying quite a distance away!
I'd be interested in your "FEAR" Fly In, keep us posted?
thanks again for the support!
