+1 on the EF-16 !

Brick, I'm with you on this. Fish, sorry and surprised you didn't like it. I think it's the smoothest flying edf in my squadron. Next time the kit version goes on sale for $29.00, I might go ahead and get another.

Finally got to maiden the Stinger today. It is all set up with Dons motor and fan,i also added a Turnigy Plush 60a esc. It was a bit windy at the field today,im in the UK, and the field is up high, over looking Dartmoor so very exposed.
I was flying using Turnigy nanos 2200 4s 25-50c. Set timer for 4 minutes, opened the throttle wide, and did an underhand launch. Well, she took off like a scalded cat, didnt need to put any real effort into the launch, she just pulled away.Got her up a 100ft or so then dropped back to half throttle. Went into the circuit and she was flying straight and true,no trim needed at all. Did a couple of circuits half throttle,at just over half, she was as fast as the stock set up on wot. Opened her wide up and she screams. Did a few wot passes, all i can say is Wow.Before i knew it,the timer was beeping at me so brought her round to land. No problems at all with the landing but needed plenty of elevator when flairing. She does come in quite fast even into a fairly strong wind.
I thought about having another flight but really didnt like the wind so rather than take the risk,i called it a day.Battery was just slightly warm. All i can say is, Dons set up really wakes the Stinger up. I would recommend his set ups if you want to make her scream. Really dont think flying on 3s will be the same again.

Wahoo Heliflyer!!!!!! I am so stoked for you right now. I will have to review that setup that you are using. I am eager to see what speeds you are getting now.

Happy flying may your crashes be limited and if they are not limited let them be cool.

Yea not really sure what the problem was, have a few videos of my lack of success. I think some of it had to do elevons and my lack of flying skills. Not really sure why. I may try it again sometime

As soon as i can get to fly again,i will doppler it. Its got to be over 100mph. Don says he dopplered his at 100-105mph. Well fast enough for me.Having said that,i thought the stinger flying stock was fast when i first flew her.

Keep hearing about this Phase 3 F16 .. / EF-16 .... where is it for $29.99 or similar priced ? International sale or just USA ?

Stinger is now in Euro WH listings but back-order ! Price is steep though ...

The F16 is about the coolest looking US jet out ... and I can modify colour scheme to many other nations colours to get away from same look as everyone else ...
Watched Singapore boys flying 16's last few days .. real ones not models !!

Looking at specs on it - I can see why you like it. 7omm unit in a light frame .. when you consider the Lanxian on 70mm - its heavier and larger ..

Here is the set up i have.
Setup C: For 4S lipo (about 675 watts) For 4S 2200 lipo 30-40C
Slightly heavier due to bigger motor but also more efficient than the light 4S setup

Wicked Plus 4000 with "standoff with rotor plug for EDO" option
http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=92

EDO type 1 fan unit
http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=74

Mount and Dynamic balance:
http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?_a=...&product_id=89

I was going to use my Eflite esc but it just wouldnt run with it,so i have used a Turnigy plush 60A with no problems.Im also using Turnigy nano tech 28-50c and they fit and balance perfectly.

Heili,
I'm digging that setup and the prices are reasonable as well. Got me thinking I have been going about it all wrong. I think you definitely have an awesome combo here. Hoping for a lot of success.

Edit: I had to go back through the prior posts for I am not home nad it seems I have a similar setup just not from Dons I wonder what my problem was Pretty bad when I cant recall what I have in my own plane but I am definitly keeping your links in my favorites for comparison.

Also I am curiouse about the mount and dynamic balancer Heli if you would not mind expanding a bit on that I know I would be interested does it help the fan from bouncing?

Edit #2: Phooey on Phase 3 EF16 Real men fly Stingers!!!

Happy flying may your crashes be limited and if they are not limited let them be cool.

Here is Dons info from his site:
Dynamically balancing makes your fans run smoother and quieter and can prevent rotor failure and bearing failure as there are no extra forces due to vibration. Balanced and mounted fan units should not be disassembled as once reassembled it may no longer still be in balance. Motor leads will be bare and can be directly soldered to your ESC wires (recommended choice). Please note the mounting and balancing process takes extra time and and is quite popular and some tinkering is always needed so please allow up to an extra 5 business days processing time. Scrubbing on the inside of the EDF housing is common and is not an indication of receiving a "used" setup.

Hope thats of help.

Oh my goodness look what they have done to the Stinger!! For some strange reasonm I like it it might have to do with the fact it can run on 4S. I think I may have to purchase this when I gert home.

Well the paint job I have to admit at first looked like something from 1984 in fact I thought I heard the phone ringing with the 80s calling saying "they wanted their colors back" but after looking at for a while and watching the video. I was thinking that it was quite visable in the sky and is an attention grabber.

Good luck with you 4S set up Brick hope it works out well for ya. I am wondering if the MK2 40a ESC is to small for some of the C rated 4 cells out ther today but only time will tell I suppose. Looking forward to someone picking this up and giving us a review. I may just purchase it myself if/when the US warehouse picks it up

looks the same with a new paint job. nice that it'll take 4cell right away.

as far as the paint job...way to busy and to much pink! it's a plane we can say "she" in talking about it and the paint matches.

narrow is the place to land...wide is the space to crash....choose the narrow way!

The more and more I look at it I have to admit the more I like it. Yea the paint scheme is busy etc etc and it is the exact same size but with a 4 cell should be a screamer in my opinion. But Im stumped about the 40a ESC mine was not good enough when I converted mine so...
What say you Wattheads?

Default Stinger 64 V2

Well I could not resist and considered it an impulse buy but I pulled the trigger this afternoon and picked one of these up. I know I know I was converting my V1 to 4s but decided I just wanted to make the comparison so it is on its way from China. I have no idea who will arrive first me from Afghanistan or the plane on the slowboat from China.
I plan to do something to the bottom of the plane because current reviews said the current color scheme was so busy that orientation was a bit confusing.
I will give my personnel review of the plane, which Im sure will not be too exciting, because I am curiouse to compare the V1 to V2. I think either way they will be blast.
Have not heard much on this thread weather must have folks staying inside or something but am hoping to here from some folks on their thoughts of the KickAzz Stinger for now I will just have to wait

Happy flying may your crashes be limited and if they are not limited let them be cool.

Default Stinger 64 Mk2

Ok I finally got home and so did my Stinger 64 MK2, in fact beat me by one day so I thought I would do another crude version of a review. So here goes.
I intend to use a 4s 2200 mah battery in hopes to get about 3-4 minutes of flight time and a whole lot of fun.
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=20754

Unboxing:

The Stinger came well boxed as usual and there was no damage to the box or to the plane.
I then laid all parts out to ensure they were not broken and to do some comparison to the original and the only major change seems to be the motor has been beefed up to a 3500KV motor and a 40amp ESC. The original configuration was a 30amp ESC and a smaller motor, I have forgotten the size. The obvious change is the paint scheme and the fact that this can run on a 4 cell battery rather than 3 cell.

Assembly:
Assembly is identical to the original Stinger, requires only CA for one piece and all major pieces are installed using screws. The instruction manual is still worthless and they have not improved the manual other than update the pictures. So you have to guess where 2 longer screws go

Step one was to install the wing. I first installed the Y-harness using the shorter Y-harness because I assume the longer one was for the tail. Place the wire through the hole in the bottom of the fuse and I used the 2 longer screws for front portion of the wing because that appears to be the deeper portion, but this is only a guess and the manual does not specify, and I installed 2 for the rear. Note before installing the wing, be sure to remove the tape holding the fan during shipping and I take this opportunity to check to see if t control rods and horns are in the holes that you prefer on my plane they were all in different holes. I prefer mine to be in the furthest hole from the plane but this is your preference.

Step two was to install the rudder to the elevator. This is done by taking on of the smaller screws and attaching the two pieces together. Install the longer y- harness onto the elevator. I put a small piece of tape on this Y-harness just so that I do not mistake it for the ailerons harness when it comes time to hook it all up. You will need to feed the wires through the fuselage to the front of the plane. This can be difficult and frustrating at times. A trick is to take a spare control rod and to tape the wires to it and push the rod on through to feed them. Then place the remaining four screws to attach the tail section to the fuse.

Step three was to install the wire cover piece. This is the only time you will need some CA to glue it on. I only use a small dab because you may have to remove it in case of repairs.

Finished:

So far CG is spot by the manual which places it right at the finger holes on the bottom of the fuselage if one wants to place a different battery in this may require some battery placement adjustment.

Building Pros:
1. Same as the original Stinger so if you have one already installation is a snap and you will have it built before battery is charged.
2. The color scheme. Yep I like it remands me of the 1980s and I think the pink will help make it more visible in the sky
3. The manual states where the CG should be. This is important to me because I hate trying to figure it out.

Building Cons:
1) I think they should have strengthened the nose cone a well known week point.
2) The manual its terrible but with the pictures you should be able to figure it out
3) On my model all the control surfaces needed to be centered and control horns were not in the same spot at each section. In my opinion if you don’t catch it before flight could be ugly

Note: I added packing tape to the wings and the elevator for strengthening it does not add to much weight in my opinion and I do it to all my models. I also will be taping the nose cone before maiden

Maiden: Is yet to come weather here in Wyoming is unpredictable this time of the year and I have yet to find a good day for a maiden but I promise to update when the maiden occurs

Welcome back Fish ! You're a great American !

I'm sure you're excited to get back to where you left off. Congrats on the new Stinger and the rest of the new squadron additions. Nice review. Did it come with a disco ball ? LOL Can't wait to hear how she flies on 4S.
