Default NEAT Day 3 (Sunday)

Just got home from NEAT. Thursday was the best day, Sunday second best as far as the weather went.

Unfortunately, a man was struck by a helicopter late in the morning, and that took the wind out of most everyone's sails. Details are sketchy at this point, so I'm going to leave it at that, and I would ask that you do so as well. Random speculation will only do harm.

Thanks for that link, Mike. It sounds like the injuries could have been much much worse. It's very encouraging to hear that he's going to recover.

A friend of mine was one of the first people to respond and provide first aid. He was quite shaken after the adrenaline wore off, and I'm sure he'll be relieved to know that the injuries were relatively minor compared to what they looked like at the field.

Yeah very good news.

There is always the chance something like that can happen... We just hope it never does. At least the fella and his son stepped and took responsibility.

Glad to hear it was realtively minor injuries.

Seems like more of a typical RCG post to me. :\

On top of that:

Since we were using 2.4GHz Spektrum, radio lockout will be ruled out.

Yea....It was pretty much pandemonium for a while. My nephew/employee was 15 feet from the accident. I thank God he wasnt hit. We will wait and see what the official report is. It was pretty clear that the accident was just that....an accident. Prayers to Mr. Wu and his family for a full and expedient recovery. Kudos to Tom Hunt and the staff for the way it was handled...very professionally indeed.
Take Care,
Vammy

On top of that:

Spencer - RCG is a well run professional site with great information and people - don't take your battle with Jim to this site.

It is a statement from the father - and since it was NOT posted here on Wattflyer but was the crash was mentioned I thought it appropriate to link it.

2.4GHz Spektrum equipment is the most stable RC system in use today. Period. That is a perfectly understandable conclusion. It is quite refreshing to see they are not blaming equipment - as MOST pilots do in a crash. He has taken full responsibility - a stand up action. It is clear that many have been very upset by the crash - and it is just comforting to see him take the heat.

It is a tragic event - a danger all to real for all of us. A good lesson but not a time to bash RCG.

Is it me or is there very little in the way of coverage of NEAT. Unfortunately most of the posts relating to the event on RCG are negative or about the crash. It's almost Jerry Springer over there in that thread. 200 or so posts arguing about who is at fault or whether little Mr. Chi should be flying.

Yeah I feel the same way and part of that could have been the weather making for less then ideal conditions on Friday and sat. But I think the incident has taken over anyones enthusiasm for reporting on the event.

I apologize for the lack of pictures and videos from NEAT. It's been a heluva week... A 60-hour work week plus a combat meet on Saturday pretty much killed my ambition for the rest of the weekend...

It's all good Matt. I feel you on the work thing. Making the $$$ sure has gotten in the way of me spending it lately. Wife is filling that block quite admirably though

I have just read about the accident. I'm glad also that the injuries weren't worse. As the article said, these things can happen very quickly.

NEAT Fair is the Northeast Electric Aircraft Technology Fair. The Silent Electric Fliers of Long Island, led by event organiser Tom Hunt, have been holding this event since 2000 at the Peaceful Valley Campsite located among the Catskill mountains in Shinopple, NY.Event goers have borne witness to the evolution of electric aircraft from the NiCd era clear through to the bargain-priced LiPolys of today. This is the day to make final adjustments and test flights on new planes brought in just for the show, to renew old acquaintances, and make some new ones. The RCUniverse Team consisting of myself,"Papa Jeff" Ring, and Ed "Mr. Fantastic" Briton will be bringing you pictures, videos, and interviews from the show.Unfortunately,Peaceful Valley Campsite is in a dead zone; there is no cell phone coverage, no Internet. There isn't even a good FM radio signal. We'll be posting the events of the day here each evening, as long as the Internet access at the hotel is working.
