Sending the info to HiRCflyer, I'm sure you can list him in Hawaii. He's the club trainer for ASRCC.

Cool. Thanks! He do not have anyone in HI yet. And believe it or not, we have zero volunteers from AZ. I thought there were a ton of RCers in that state.

We now have 87 volunteers/clubs on the map. Well toward my goal of 100 by Sunday. If anyone else wants to volunteer please let me know. I know this is going to be a valuable resource for anyone wanting to learn more about our sport and a rewarding experience for those volunteering.

As always, we can use more MA mentors. Please let me know if you are willing to help and I will add you to our map.

I know it takes a lot to leave the security of a PC and step out in the real world to help newcomers. And even if you feel you cannot contribute much, some help is better than no help.

I know there must be over 50 wattflyers visiting this forum everyday. Let's set a goal of getting 10 new MA mentors from WF by the end of the week. So if you know someone that is willing to help others in their local area, let them know to contact me and I will add them as a mentor.

This forum prides itself onbeing the most friendly and helpful on the internet so it should be a snap to get at least 10 new mentors from WF.

Thanks!

I know it is tough to get out and meet strangers and we feel so safe behind our computers screen, but trust me, helping others in this hobby is a truly rewarding experience. And who knows, you might meet some folks that become lifelong friends.

Newcomers to this hobby need help and why let them do it on their own? Even if don't consider yourself an expert, any help you can provide would be better than no help at all.

I did make this video so just in case someone may be cruising around YouTube and just happens to want to get into RC, they may be able to find someone close to them to help.

Frank

The best thing we can do is to encourage others to get away from the PC screen and meet total strangers. That may be tough for some to do even though they may have a lot to offer but are afraid to not be so anonymous.

And as BubSteve pointed out, strangers are really friends just waiting to meet you.

AMA has 2 programs for people to register to help beginners.... I signed up for both, starting more than 7 years ago for the more recent one and over 10 for the older one.

ZERO responses through those programs, but we have a lot of people who stop by our display at the local air show every year asking how to get started in the hobby.

Setting up a program or list of people willing to help beginners does no good when the beginners don't even have a clue where to look for it. it might make the people joining the list feel good about themselves... thats about it.

For this list to do any good you'll have to advertise it better than AMA does its advertising....

Well done BubSteve, well done.

And I totally agree about getting the word out to newcomers. We who care about helping others need to do all we can to help in that effort. And it can't be only me doing the work either since I am only one guy. I have spent a ton of hours on this effort, but like I said, I am just one guy.

All of us that care about helping others need to do what they can as well.

Frank

PS I forgot to mention, I am contacted all the time via email about RC questions and concerns people have. It is great to know that people have confidence in my abilities to provide accurate answers and give sound advice about modeling related issues. A lot of the videos I have done are because of folks asking me how to do this or that. I think the videos help relay the info a lot better than than an email. I certainly enjoy answering the questions and it is nice to see the progress and outcomes of people all across the US that I have helped.

I think once people understand how much they can help others, even if they are not experts (who really is actually), becoming a mentor is an extremely rewarding experience. I have learned that building and flying is fun, but helping others achieve the same tops the former hands down.

Another appeal to our WF community to those that would like to help others. I know there must be more people in this forum willing to help others. I know it is scary to meet strangers. But look at the missed opportunity to make new friends if you never step away from your PC screen.

Let's show everyone that WF has the most helpful people on the web by raising your hand and volunteering to become a MA Mentor. I know we can do it. It is Wed now. Please get the word out and let's try to get 10 more volunteers by Sunday and prove that we are the members here on WF truly are the most helpful RC forum out there.

Question:
Are we allowed to put RC clubs in this thread?

If so, our Racine Radio Control Club has 6 or 8 instructors that help newcomers learn how to fly these Radio Control models. In the past year, we certified two youngsters, one at age 12, and one oldster, in his 70's.

As with any RC club, we are always looking to pick up new members.

Our club flies everything from tiny foamies, to foamie jets, small and giant electric models, glow powered models, gasoline powered models, and kerosene jet aircraft.

We do not allow any type of rotor aircraft at our field per club bylaws.

Here is our website:

Denny,

We have hundreds of clubs on the mentor map and welcome one and all to volunteer. I'll be sure to add your club to the map.

Thanks for stopping in and letting me know. I do see that things here on WF have really slowed down. It just isn't the same forum that I joined back in 07. It makes me sad to see things slow down so much.

Being in Southern California and having several good clubs to vist from the Ontario area, 35 miles in any direction....I tend to hang with a rag-tag bunch of mature AMA members and past clubies at local soccer fields and school rec facilities. We get to mentor quite a bit, given the number of (clueless) newbies giving it ago at these locations........Especially after they've watched us on the ground and in the air, sharing space and patience.....

So, I guess I'm voluteering my time and "wisdom" much like a mentor program would deserve. Only not in a specfically controlled environment (although we maintain complete control while participating).......

So Cal has year round flying so we can never have too many MA Mentors in that area.

https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=U...4bc&dg=feature

Thank you for volunteering. It is great to see someone that is active here on WF take in interesting in trying to help newcomers.

All I need is contact info (phone, email or both if you'd like) your zip code, and what you can help with; such as flight instructing, model setup, building, electronics setup, radio binding, etc.

Thanks again for volunteering. I appreciate it. It has really been a struggle to get people to volunteer in the last few years. I just don't understand what is happening to our sport. I have been promoting MA for a long time now and I have as well as a number of other leaders in the hobby has seen the same thing. No one can seem to put a finger on it.
