Just because the local park is the only place smooth enough for ground takeoff. And that is how I crashed before. Maybe because it was not full throttle?

Yes,
You can belly land the T-28 if you so wish. I'm pretty lazy and prefer ground take-off and landings but your T-28 will do either just fine. Steady and stable flier. On bumpy grass , I kept breaking the plastic nose gear part. Tried everything. Stronger piano wire, etc. That's why I converted her to a tail dragger. Kind of helped. I never did get the forward rake angle perfect on the mains. Still had some nose overs. It was better when I had the 4S in there. More weight actually helped.

So when taking off, get to full throttle rather quickly? When I crashed I had been easing it up and ran out of room.

You stand far more chance of crashing with a bad toss...

You don't have to take off with full throttle but it is generally a good idea - you want power so you can climb.

Hard to teach someone how to fly on an internet forum. Again - I would seek out help. With the trouble you had with the T-28 and P-40 I think you need a bit more practice. Remember help is really, well helpful.

All e-power versions of the T-28 that I have seen (PZ original, micro, Dynam... others) have been capable of takeoff at slightly above half throttle.

You can advance the throttle too quickly causing difficulty in maintaining control before the airplane is moving fast enough for the tail surfaces to be effective.

You can also advance the throttle too slowly resulting in the plane not being ready to take off before you are out of room.

For most e-power models smoothly moving the stick from 0 to full over appx 3 to 4 seconds will work. Faster is possible for experienced pilots. Slower can be helpful if you have the runway room available.

If the aircraft is trimmed out properly (except 3D aerobatic types) then it should lift off on its own when you have adequate speed. Appx 60% throttle should hold altitude. More to climb and less to descend. The plane will try to maintain the airspeed the elevator is trimmed for.

Good poInts.

I just was feelIng a little emboldened because my pal that I got into the hobby jumped right from my Champ to a UM Corsair. He has been taking that off from the ground and doing very well.

Very true. I feel as though that once I get altitude I will be fine, especially on a less twitchy, larger plane like the Trojan.

You are correct that you cannot teach me through the computer, however, all of the help you have given me is very appreciated. Without you guys, i'd have wasted money on a warbird I'd have destroyed. I'd have been even more frustrated lol.

My buddy and I started out together when 14 years old (a few years ago now). We smashed our first plane to tiny bits (an Airtronics Q-Tee with .049 power). We then both got gliders and tossed them away from us over and over again. He progressed many times faster than I did. It really used to make me feel thick!

But now I can fly circles around him - of course he quit 15 years ago LOL!

You are very welcome for the help! It is a great hobby we want all to enjoy it as we do.
