Can someone advice if this power supply that powers an alarm clock radio here in USA, can also be used in a country where there is 220v a.c.? It says a.c. Input is 100-220v....wonder why. Does it mean I can connect this to a 220v supply without any issues? Pls advice, kris

Yes that is what it means.
What are you powering with it? 4.5v output is pretty low.... Mike |

It can handle any AC voltage between 100 and 240 volts.
A switching power supply, sort of turns on and brings a capacitor up to the correct voltage (4.5 on yours) then switches off. it then switches on and off to keep the correct voltage output. |

wonder how it can take a big range of a/c input ie 90-220v? Thx all -- Kris |

I believe it switches the rectified AC, now a pulsating DC.
It senses the output voltage but switches the input to the cap. on & off very fast. I really don't think it cares much about excess voltage it just doesn't use it. It's been a while since I studied the types of power supplies that are out there. Wikipedia can probably explain it better. |

You now have a square wave pulsing output where the peaks are the input voltage, the troughs are zero and the average is the desired output. This is fed into capacitors which act like dampers to smooth out all the peaks and trough and deliver a smooth steady output at the desired voltage. Steve, |
