Help with fan!

I have a Great Planes L-39 Albatros that I've had for about three years. I went to upgrade the motor and fan unit. The aftermarket fan was way out of balance. I'm looking for the original fan unit for this plane.

It's not sold under "parts" for this plane and it looks like Great Planes has stopped making it. I would like to find the specs of the original fan unit...even better if I could find the actual unit. Any help on finding the this info would be appreciated.

I have searched the net, but no real luck. I haven't flown in about a year and trying to get all my birds ready for the air.

You might try calling Great Planes. If Google didnt work, thats likely your only option.

On the other hand, if you know the diameter of the original fan unit, why not go with a different unit?

Sucks your new fan was so bad. I've bought 2 64mm fan setups from FanJetsUSA.com, and they are still running perfect after probably about a years use. Sadly, it looks like they don't carry 64mm any more. Though is that L-39 64mm or ???

Did a search on the GP L-39, is it this one?

I agree with Larry, unless it's a great performer out of the box, I'd look for a good aftermarket.

Thanks guys. I had to ream the fan to fit the aftermarket motor I bought. It threw everything off balance. I still have the original motor, but need the fan.

I found out that the Hyperflow 56mm fan unit from Great Planes is what I need. It goes for about $22.00. However, the media surrounding this fan unit seem to be for a brushed setup. It comes with three different adapters for brushless motors, to include mine.

Now, I have a $100.00 motor that will be sitting in a box for a while, lol. Since it's been a while since I've had anything in the air, I thought I might go with the stock setup for now.

Reaming shouldn't throw it off balance unless in reality you DRILLED the rotor ... a definite no-no. I ream rotors with no problem at all ... and in fact I've never balanced a unit ... I test rotor in a simple thumb screw rig that I bought for heli blades - that's all.
All EDF units I've bought ... cheap Haoye units of Hobby King have all been good out of box.

Example : $3 50mm unit ... 5000kv motor .... 4S LiPo ... model thrust tests show 1.2 to 1 thrust to weight ratio ... (over 700gr thrust static)

Thanks Nigel. I did use a drill bit to ream the rotor...of course I have since purchased an actual reaming bit. Thanks for the response. Working on getting that unit ordered today. Great video too! Thanks mate.
