Well I took the Pronto out today for her maiden flight.
I was fairly nervous, since this was my first low wing airplane. However, after flying an aileron enabled slowstick for some time, I found the pronto to be a very gentle low wing trainer. I'd built in a bit of down thrust and right thrust, so she tracked fairly straight. I do need to adjust the ailerons so they have a bit more throw. She's a little too gentle in her rolls, but other than that, I can't ask for a better experience. I am also adding flaperons to this one, because why not? Here is the motor I used. 100% thrust to AUW, although I did add about 1.2oz of balast to the nose. So perhaps a bigger motor could be used to offset that dead weight. The only downside, is I let a friend fly her and he stalled her out on landing. She sort of tip stalled, but the damage was minimal. I have repairs nearly complete, and should be airborne in a day or two (weather permitting). I am impressed at how sturdy the plane was. Scuffed wing tip, lost tail wheel, and a bent motor shaft (replacement order). Other than that, no real structural damage. Anyhow, I will try to get some flight pics next time. -M |

Well it rains here for 6 months out of the year, so you gotta fly whenever it's dry. It's the wind that is the deciding factor. That was actually a pretty nice day, all things considered.

Thanks StarCad!
I am really digging the Pronto. I replaced the aluminum landing gear with some 3/32 wire. Well actually they removed themselves and I just added some new ones The new landing gear provides more bounce and handles rough grass better.I also added some more throw to the ailerons. She now flys amazingly well. The 400 class motor provides plenty of power without being overwhelming. One thing I can say for the pronto is she can take abuse. I've had a couple crashes, a tree-ing, wing tip strikes on landing, and I've hit the LE on various stationary objects. Aside from some packing tape bandaids, she's in great shape. Cheers, M |
