Do i still need to remove the red wire from the esc to receiver connection? These will have to be on a Y-connector of course. I will use a 2-cell LiFepo pack for the rx and servo's. I know a separate sbec would be lighter, but I have a feeling I'm going to need nose weight anyway,so I might as well make it work for a living .The aircraft is the Focke-Wulf 19 Ente I mentioned in another post.

If the ESC's have a BEC (battery eliminator circuit) I disconnect the red lead when I use a flight pack battery. If they do not, then there is nothing to worry about.
In your case with 2 ESC's on a Y, and a separate flight battery of 2s Life which I think will put out 6.6 v, I would disconnect both red wires before they plug into the Y lead, if they have BEC's. If you only disconnected the red from the Y lead to the RX, the 2 BEC's could sort of screw each other up. (don't need that) 2 --50 amp ESC's sounds like a nice plane, tell us about it. Good luck |

The ESC's are OPTO (meaning no BEC) so you don't need to remove the red wire.
Just a thought and maybe too late, but would it not have been better to run the batteries in series (or get a 4s battery)? The higher voltage would have meant you could have halved the amps for the same power and so then used smaller/lighter/cheaper ESC's and lower kv motors.. This would give slightly lighter weight overall and better efficiency from the motors for the same power. |

The 3000 mah packs are 3-cell Zippy packs. The motors are hextronic 4023 850kv bell motors.I want to swing 11x5.5 props with them, counter rotating.
The reason i want to use the 2x50A esc's is because I have those in my drawer.I don't have a matching pair of smaller ones. This is the aircraft in question: http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69046 Thanks for the clarification re the red wire, folks.

I use twin 50A optos on my HK Parkjet ...
I use a single LiPo - but principle is same. Power into both Opto ESC's, then ESC's Rx leads to Y lead to Rx throttle ch. I use a separate BEC that is connected to the LiPo power lead before the ESC's .. this plugs into a spare Rx ch to power the system. Nothing else to do as long as opto ... Nigel |
