Default Hard To Beat

Well I am doing research on a new build. I decide to build an Extreme Flight 48" Edge 540 EXP. So that research is a done deal.

However since I have time on my side I tried to find upgrades from factory Motor, ESC, and Servos. What I am finding out is I cannot find a better motor/esc combination that beats what the EF specifies. Only thing I could do better is use digital servos. EF recommends Hitec MG65 servos. I can do much better than that by using Hitec HS-5070 MH and running 7.4 volts. Significant upgrade.

The Motor EF uses appears to be their own called a Torque 2814T/ 820 KV. ESC is again their own Airboss 45 amp used to drive a 12 x 6 APC E. According to Drive Calc and another one I found on line cannot come up with any improvement. Most fell short and only 2 even came close.

So I can only conclude EF does a real good job matching things up. If you can find something better, I am all ears.

Run the EF power system, here's how it performs:

Chris and the whole EF team spend a lot of time testing these airplanes out with various systems and components to ensure that what they recommend will perform extremely well. The HS-65MG would probably do fine in the airplane but the HS-5070MH is taking it to the next level.

No argument here. I intend to run the EF Power Train System. They did an excellent job. I tried for 2 days running clacs and nothing can beat it. In fact no other combination can equal the performance. Sure I can find Motors and ESC combos power can deliver more thrust and power, but requires significantly more weight and volume that would not fit in the cowl, and larger heavier battery. In other words EF combo delivers the highest Thrust to Weight Ratio. They managed to put 10 pounds of chit in a 1 pound box. My hat is off to them.

As you said the only improvement I can make is with Servos. I understand why they chose MG65's. They are good inexpensive analog Servos and should work fine. Then you told me about the 5070 which is a significant upgrade with 4 times the power, with only 1.8 grams more weight per unit.

I am a happy camper on paper so far.
