Edit.. out posts crossed, it doesn't look nearly so bad on the new photos.
Tks ... yes she did have a slight curve ... so when I added another section deck to take the battery more fwd ... I gave a twist before glueing it in.
This is where foam has a problem in that it easily achieves a curved state when building even with jig. But it's advantage is unlike stiffer wood - you can twist out a fault and glue in a doubler or former to correct.

I have aligned motor shaft and rudder (with slight right thrust of course) to counter any banana left in her ...

To be honest - this was a throw it together exercise to show others particularly newbies - that it is possible to resurrect semmingly impossible crashed models. The next is to video it flying to put icing on the cake !

It's worth noting as well - that I can fit the original wheels to her as well if needed.

Nigel looks excellent. I have to say there is a lot of talent right here. I hope the maiden or re maiden or whateva you decide to call it goes great. Looking forward to reading your report

Happy flying may your crashes be limited and if they are not limited let them be cool.

Hawk
Span 880mm
Root Chord 190mm

AUW : 470gr without LiPo .. balance needs the 2200 so that will add another 195gr ... total 665gr ... similar actually to the Lanyu when all up for flight... (Lanyu was 750gr)

Motor is RCTimer 1200kv 200w job with 8x6 prop ...

She's no beauty .. lot of rough joints /edges ... but whole point was to get her back in the air and to also show what can be done ...

Great rebuild nigel ,to show it can be fixed with a little foam glue and brains. I got my first arf in 40 years of building and flying for X - MAS this year (funcub) For the rest of my planes i have cardboard patterns to fix them all. I have over the years found crashed planes in the garbage can at my club field and had them flying again in a week or so. If you keep showing these guys how to fix their crashed planes its going to make it hard for me to find any new ones in the can .lmao good job nigel. joe

Each year my decision point for fix or dump shifts more to the fix and away from the dump. I think, in the 9 years I have been flying I have sent two models to the round file and fixed and fixed and fixed the others. Almost anything can be fixed with some time and effort and the right glue.

Just so happens I have a plan somewhere here ...

I'm adding finishing touches to her ... cosmetics ...

This is today, with exhausts stacks added and a few markings, the 'crosses'on fuselage need tidying up the black lines on the white ...

The exhaust stacks are small triangles of 6mm stuck to a base piece of 3mm ... then a slight scraped trough in fuselaqe side made to hot-glue the stack into.

Here's the Lanyu original out of box as RTF when I first got her ...

Then after a repaint - still original airframe, but now with Brushless ..

...............................................

Quest now is for a spinner I can fit. The adaptor shaft with an 8x6 prop on is not long enough to take the spinner base plate as well. So I need to find a spinner that secures from front or at least if anyone has any idea how to sort this ? The only other spinner I've seen is one that presses onto the threaded end of the shaft in front of prop ... but that's no good to me as this shaft is too short and too large a diameter.

I decided in the end to swap out the motor for my spare Cessna motor which has long threaded shaft. This allowed me to fit the spinner and she now looks much better.
I also added 35gr of weight to front end under the nose - to bring that CoG to where it should be.

I think you can agree that the spinner does improve her a bit !!

You may notice that I have added support struts to the tail ... this is actually a feature of the full-size where tail needed stiffening. I've also fitted the wheels for first flights ...

I'm hoping to go flying tmrw - so maybe if weather's good .. she gets her maiden.

Great job with the repair. It looks good.
I had a GWS ME-109 that hit the ground hard several years ago. I created a flying wing out of the broken main wing. Maybe, if you crash it again, you could build something similar.

That's similar to what I did with my QB10 when Rx antena broke of at the board ! She ploughed in but luckily most was still repairable.
But I decided I wanted something a litttle more than just a sport flyer. So I broke the centre joint of wing ... swept it back like a jet .. repaired the fuselage but with less depth ... fitted a 20 IC instead of the 10 ... took of the wheels ...

Boy what a flyer ! Used her at displays etc.

Nigel

Time to move the 109 & pilot to the rear lines.
Needs some Bondo body filler & paint. The pilot still looks tired.

Some R & R for both.

Rich

Edit

My GWS A-10 has been sleeping in the body shop for several years. No parts at the repair depot. I had 3 A-10s.
Bad pilot. Not enough R & R.

Once she proves flight is OK - I intend to sort that fuselage to spinner line ... do a bit of cosmetic improvement ... but first - lets see what she flies like.
