Those "APP" connectors we used at work by the thousands, and those from Allied Electronics don't have that hole in the middle.

BTW, I was using one of the Allied Electronics connectors along with those "Anderson Power Pole" connectors with the 30% thinner pins on the same set of #12 wires. At 55 Amps continuous duty, the APP pins MELTED their plastic shell. The Allied connectors were working just fine, even though they were both carrying the same exact 55 Amps for about 20 minutes.

That's interesting. I went to the site just now and the plastic sleeves they show have the roll pin hole.

Apparently Allied Electronics carries both the Anderson Power Pole connectors, AND the heavier duty TE Connectivity connectors.

I've got 130 Red shells, 150 black shells, 200 terminals from Allied Electronics. The last batch was ordered in November 2012. None of them have the hole in them.

These are made by "TE Connectivity". When both the housings and terminals are made as a set, they readily plug into the Anderson Power Pole connectors.

The TE ones must be hard to find. All of the ones I have seen at HAM fest, which is where I buy most of mine, have the roll pin hole. But as you said in your other post the real issue is probably the thicker contacts. Will the thicker contacts work in the sleeves with the pin hole?

Nope:
The thinner pins work only with the APP housings, the thicker pins work only with the TE housings.

That said, you can plug in the APP pins and housings into the TE pins and housings, or vice-versa. (FYI, I've got both the APP type and the TE type connectors in my inventory)

And, after a LOT of looking, I've only found the TE connector pins and housings at www.alliedelec.com. They started out with 5000 pins, and are now down to 1000 in their stock.
