IMHO Hobbyking ESC's are junk. I bought a 25/30 SS series. Plugged into battery on the bench, instant meltdown. I'd rather pay a few $$ more and get something that was made with reasonable QC and will work within its design parameters than just roll the dice on the low price point. Money wasted is money wasted, even if its only $12. Most of us here wouldnt take $12 and set fire to it...so why take the chance with this ultra-cheap crap?

I've had some good hobbyking esc's. Actually have burned up a couple, but found I was pulling nearly 200 watts on a 120w motor with too big of a prop.

I have a number of ESCs but my favourite is the Turnigy Trust 55A. I have 2 of them. It runs cool and a program card is available for it.
I have a Detrum 30A that overheats and shuts down after 60 seconds at 24 amps. Crap. |

![]() I've bought numerous ESC's of HK and all except one (that came in a small ARF model) worked perfectly. The one that failed burst into flames on the first flight which was quite 'exciting' but I took a photo of it and HK gave me a refund (after a bit of email 'ping-pong') To some extent you get what you pay for even with HK. Some of the HK ESC's are very good. The Turnigy Plush are just re-labelled Hobbywing Pentium ESC's and enjoy a bullet proof reputation. I've also had good luck with the Mystery 'Blue' series of ESC's. The really cheap ones are a bit hit or miss but for the price you cant expect too much. If you want something better be prepared to pay a little more and read the user reviews etc. |
