gramps,i love the way your wing tips turned out so nicely!!!the whole bird looks great.

having had the same issues with the prop cutting grass...lol...i cut my nose gear and soldered a longer gear on. the reason i soldered it is the gear is located behind the motor and fire wall. everything was operating so well with the exception of prop clearance.

i flew the cobra for the first time this season after it's waiting 2 years hanging off the ceiling and it was awesome!!!! it still cut grass though and gained speed quickly for liftoff. once on the ground i cleaned her up of grass clippings and flew again.

i agree that putting a larger tire on the nose stinks for the visual looks on the flight table,but in the air as the pilot...wheels were last thing on the mind and just getting her finally flying was all that mattered.

gramps it would be a blast to get a bunch of us together and try formation flying.

i put in these pictures of the gear before the soldering. the repair look great and didn't add much weight. so if the nose gear still gives you problems its a very easy fix. you can see i had the nose gear to short in the pic of it on the table. not the pitch of the plane is nose up a bit and takes off great.

This is not my first trike so I now about cutting the grass. I think I do a better job of it than the guy that cut's the field. The tips of my props become green and I have bits of grass stuck to the plane.

I checked the prop clearance with a 11" prop I have 2 1/2 inches of clearance with 2 1/2 inch wheels. When it's ready to fly I will see how much of a issue it is I have wire on hand to bend up a new UC.

Stuart it would look sweet seeing these fly in formation at a fly in.

Well I am waiting on the spinner to come in and then I can mount the cowling so I can get the colors on it.

I tried heating and stretching the red covering on the tips for the first time. The first one came out with some wrinkles and the second attempt came out a lot better. Just need to heat it first then pull and tack it down. My wife helped hold down the wing it does take some force to get the covering pulled and then iron it in place.
Next is to try and mimic the Thunder bird on the bottom of the wing.
Just taking my time and doing a little bit each night makes it more enjoyable. What do they say baby steps.

Looking good Gramps. Your so right the best trick to Monocote is Heat, starch, and Tac. Took me years to learn that but now it seems like just doing a normal day of ironing. About 10 years ago I was fortunate enough to be able to watch all Top Flite Monocote Covering VHS tapes. I learned more in those three hours than in 30 years covering models.

Thanks Starcad I watched some covering videos on YouTube they are good learning tools. The actual covering part that's when you really get the learning curve.

I just got the correct prop adapter from True Turn awesome folks to do business with. I clicked on the wrong one, and had to send it back. I called them up to let them know the phone rang 3 times and I am speaking to a person!

I did get the decals put on and checked the CG. Found I will be able to go with a 4c 3300 mah battery instead of the 4000 mah one little more wgt. savings. All that wgt. off the back end paid off I had the battery pushed back towards the COG instead of all the way forward against the motor mount. Now to get the cowling mounted so I can get some color on it.
On the home stretch finally.
For got to add the AUW is 5lbs 1 oz she did come out light for a conversion to electric.

Finally have the battery compartment figured out, and CG looks to be good. A couple of flight's will confirm whether the battery needs to be moved back. It does seem on the nose heavy side, which I have learned is better for a first flight.
Been so dry and cold up here plus the pellet stove dries things out even more. I have some extra wrinkles to take out of the covering, but I will hold off and see what happens when the air is not so dry.
Ran up the Axi 2826/10 11X5.5 prop with a 4c 3300 mah battery charged at 4.10. Very happy with the readings from the watt meter pulling 42 amps and 667 watts then would drop to 647 to 637 watts. this is a 2 year old battery that has seen better days.
Well when the warmer weather gets here, and I can get down to the club I will post up on how she flies.
Very happy with this plane to me she looks sleek and beautiful.

I'm back in the hobbie after 20 years. Sig airplanes are awesome. I got a Sig kadet senior EG something like this Kougar is at least 2 airplanes away still. Awesome project!

I am planning to build a Kougar out of foam but cannot find any plans. If someone would please share some dimensions with me it would be a great help.

What i need....

wing measurement LE to TE in the center including the aileron as well as the same measurement at wing tip.

dimensions of ailerons

dimensions of fuselage at largest point as well as the TE of the fuselage

I already have the dimensions of the tail feathers

The wing span is 51" center of wing 12 5/8" tapers to 9 1/2" at the wing tips. The ailerons are 21 1/4 X1" fuselage length is 45 1/2".
Hope this helps you out. I am still waiting to maiden this plane hoping next weekend will be good weather wise.

On the fuse i was actually looking for how tall the fuse is in the front and rear and how wide it is across the top in the front and rear.

I am in illinois and got 6 inches of snow this morning and just started snowing again.

I have a King Kobra kit and am planning to go e-power with AXi 4120/18 on 6S (had it in a .90 size Pattern style plane that I wore out)

I am expecting to have to use a 3-blade prop to prevent needing to make the plane look like its on stilts.

I found this thread a bit late... There's a lot of room to lighten the wing by cutting holes.

I believe Sig is discontinuing the Kobra, Kougar, King Kobra series. They have been wonderful aircraft.

The front measurements are 3"w 4"h the tail is 1"w 1 7/8 H. I saw a great battery hatch to late for this plane. It was made where the canopy sits on the turtle deck. Way better than the way I did it on the bottom.

fhuber you are not going to save much wgt. by taking foam out of the wing.

Not just foam... big lightening holes clear through, all aft of the airfoil high point.

I have done this before on sheeted foam wings with great results.

Gotcha thought you just meant cutting holes in the foam then sheeting the wing.
