If it's an accurate measurement it's too high. I like to see 4.20V or less. But I wouldn't actually worry until/unless I'd checked it myself with a meter I know to be accurate. Some chargers report all sorts of odd voltages. I had one a while ago that cut off the charge at a reasonable voltage but consistently reported 0.2V high overall i.e. it stopped at 12.6V but said it was 12.8V .

the guidance I've read says to never exceed 4.22v per cell. So yes, 4.26V is worryingly high.

Is this because the cells were not balanced?

What make and model of charger do you have?

I'd suspect the accuracy of the meter being used to measure the voltage. Do you have a known accurate meter to check it against? Chances are the voltage is not quite what you are reading. However, if it is an accurate reading, I'd recalibrate the charger or use a different one.

You're saying that on a non-balanced charge the cv portion of charge is reading 4.26 per cell? How are you getting this reading? The resting voltage is probably well below 4.2 volts, right?

Are you saying that when balance plug is used the reading is 4.17 on the cv stage? How do you get this reading?

The only way I can guess this happens is that perhaps this is the reading from a pack's highest cell during a non-balanced charge and is the highest reading it gets to upon termination of the charge? If this is the case then the pack is just unbalanced and needs balanced.
