Hello everyone... I bought a Bi-plane at the local fly in a few years back and converted it from gas to electric.
I have no clue were to start to balance it. the plane has a straight bottom wing and the top wing is forward about 1 to 2 inches, and tapers back. If I use the bottom wing it's nose heavy, if I use the top wing it's tail heavy. I'm just looking for a good starting point. the two wings are about 34 inches or so span. thanks everyone, and it is cold this morning....... |

LD, can you post a photo of the plane? Someone may know what it is and be able to tell you exactly.

Here's a diagram for finding CG on biplanes with unequal sized wings.
You still have to determine the Mean aerodynamic chord for the swept wing. If you get me the wing area of each wing I can help you determine the CG. Knowing the plane will help a lot too. Paul |

Nobody knows who made this plane, huh?
I guess I'll "wing" it on the balance point. You have to admit that was good.

Hedge your bet on nose heavy ok?
It will fly with the balance forward, but not with it aft. |

I figured to start at about 50% of the top wing as a starting point.....
I'll let you know after this weekend.

Here's a formula for determining the CG.
http://www.palosrc.com/instructors/cg.htm Determine the cg for each wing, then for the combination with the formula in post three. Paul |
