Something like this, then, perhaps.

Or, for something really different and a ton of fun, maybe this guy.

I started out with Blade SR and really like the concept of a beginners CP heli with beginners settings in the radio but the SR's direct motor driven tail is a big disappointment. Very unreliable. Something like the Align 450 Plus RTF or Blade 450 3D RTF would probably be better. It's a big step up though. Building one of the 450 kits is another option but there is a steep learning curve on setup. The information is out there for those willing.

What ever choice is ultimately made simulator time is important and should probably be the first investment to see if you really want to pursue helicopters.

I went straight from a CX2 to a Heli Max 450 and I tell you, it was pretty rough. (Even with working on a sim every day). Crashing a 450 every other battery pack gets expensive fast.

I would recommend a Blade mCPX V2, (not the brushless). You can get them to be just as stable as a 450 heli and won't cost you an arm and a leg to repair. I crashed mine about 20 times before I had to spend any money to fix it. I can't say that for a 450 sized heli.

Another plus is that since the Brushless unit came out the V2 RTF models are $160. That comes with everything you need to fly right out of the box. I would recommend the V2 and not the brushless if you are just beginning. The BL heli blades spin a lot faster and will not be as durable in a crash. Besides, all you will be doing for a while is hovering anyway.

I also would recommend a simulator, especially if you decide to go with a bigger heli. You can get used ones for a pretty good price.
