Smile >-----Official Superfly/flea thread-----<

I finally got a Superflea, and am lovin it!!! I am really impressed at how manuverable and durable it is. So I decided to start a Official-thread on them because of the fun they are. Here we can share mods, ideas, experiences, stunts, pictures, ect.

My Mods so far- Carbon spar to prevent flex (I was pullin some G's with this plane today, and the wing would flex, causing the props to hit each other)

My Ideas- Build a brushless version of the flea, a night flyin flea/fly.

My experiences- havent had any major ones yet.

Stunts- with the rates up, fly toward yourself at medium speed. When you get close, kill throttle. Pull completely back and it should flare vertically 2.5 feet away from your face. It should stop for a second, then give throttle and climb out.

I dont have any pictures yet, but to give you an idea of my paint job.. I have blue around the edges, with green filling in the rest. I left my canopy white cause I thought it looked cool that way.

If you have a flea/fly, please post here.

Have Fun!!!
Alex

For those who have a superfly product, does the "Hot Glue Hing" method work good? does it seem strong?

I was doubtful of that method but found that it worked great. I did have a failure riding 70mph plus for a couple of hundred miles with the SF on the trunk of my bike.

Take care and thanks for posting at WattFlyer!!

Im getting mine this week for my birthday. One question, is there a better way to assemble the hyperflea other than hot glue because hot glue seems pretty heavy for a plane that im gonna try to keep light. I have that UHU foil and foam glue but it seems a little to flexible for what its gonna be used for. I could use CA but it seems too brittle to do the job. Any suggestions?

Wasps,

Trust me, I have built too many of these to count....and unless you are going to reinforce, glass, cover, and use balsa....hot glue is the best....

Dr. Dave designed the plane to do what it does with Hot-Glue (so anyone could build it)....

I just got done testing the HyperFlea two weeks back for him and it held 60mph dives and yanks straight back up....

Build it to spec, and you will love it!

Later, ya can get em going 100+MPH

114 SuperFlea Vid

Enoy the Superfly...they are fun as heck

Did you test a 3-cell upgrade? If so, how was the performance?

On the HyperFlea, the 2S was more than ample 'boogie' for it...I have not tested the motor on 3s on that plane as it, IMHO, did not need any more speed for the school yard. a Simple 900mAh 2s and T-Bird 9amp esc handled it fine.

I do know from bench testing that the same motor on the Hyperflea with a 6X4 jumps to 160 watts easy at 17 amps....so if you go that route with the HyperFlea a T-Bird 18 would be in order....but honestly for the HyperFlea, 2s is the most I would personally go without running some carbon strips to the wingtips....not that it cannot handle it...but the EPP may warp at 60MPH...these were designed for 3d-Hybrid sport fun...and we all have been pushing them waaaaaayyyy past what they were meant to do...but boy has it been FUN!!!

On the SuperFly, the 3s drop in upgrade works awesome....but everything becomes quicker and vertical is unlimited. Still, once you get those over 60 mph in a dive you may notice some warping of the wingtips as we all try to push em faster and harder than they were designed Its just what we all do!

Look on his website in the reviews section and you will see the thread I did over at RCG "parkflyer that won't put you to sleep'...and towards the end their are plenty of vids!

I still have 2 in my hanger (SuperFly and HyperFlea)....great fo for the smaller fields!

Seriously, if they sucked, I would not be talking about them....

I actually had been selling the modified glassed-fleas (100+ mph version) for a little while....but that got to be too time consuming.

What do you have in mind for yours?

Just got my HyperFlea in the mail today. Looks really good and David has improved some things over the past year or so. Here is a pic of the wing core straight outa the box. Virtually no clean up necessary. Motor looks like it's gonna rock too.

That's a negative on the video, ghostrider...

At the time I was testing...it was for "R&D testing only"...no video...or Dr. Dave sent out the Mafiosa to deal with me.

I got mine for my birthday last week and and got it flying the next day. IT WAS AWSOME! I crashed it alot but it handled it fine. On one of the landings, the prop was vertical and when it landed, the motor shaft broke! I was so mad! I still took it to indoor flying that night and showed it to all my friends. One of my friends said he would hand launch it really hard and i would control it but i was skeptical of the idea. On the first throw, it was really quite fun. i ended up doing that the rest of the night lol. today, I made up a high start using some rubber i had lying around and a tent stake and i put a hook on the bottom of the plane. It would go right up and i could get a roll or a loop in before landing it. I just love this thing and it shows because its enertaining me even without a working motor.

P.S.-I forgot to mention the prop adapter wasnt included in my kit. And one more thing, I highly suggest a prop saver instead of a prop adapter.

Buy a lottery ticket! You musta slammed that shaft hard...or it coulda been a fouled shaft (that does happen with those motors once in a while).

Best I have ever done is bent a shaft on one of the BP motors. That little motor does have some 'snot' to it on 2s, eh?

I have the same motor on another plane with a 5.5X4.5 on 3s....almost 200 watts (course those motors are not rated for that) but it was for bursts and it jacked it along at about 60 MPH!!!

You got a replacement shaft?

Its a standard 3mm shaft. (not 3.2mm).

Email david@superflyrc.com and see if he has any; if not, I know some other sources.
