Default SUPER Quick Rifle Stock Video Camera Mount Build

Hi Everyone You may of had this problem too, Trying to video fast flying planes and keeping them in the camera lens, Me too, I could not seem to find anyone that was able to keep up with my planes, they are to fast, even my Slow Slick was a Challange for people to keep in the lens,
my first attempt to over come this, was to make a helmet cam, by using a bicycle helmet, and mounting a camera on top of it, that did not work out, the camera was top heavy & it moved around alot, Hmmmm now what to do, I dont give up to easy, then I remembered of people in africa, using a rifle stock, with a heavy zoom lens, Hmmmm, maybe this might work, I told a few people here about what I was going to do, and they wanted me to make a build thread on it, and Skiman762, said that he had made one and it worked out great, Hmmm ok, So Thats what i will do here are some pics with dimentions drawn on the wood if anyone wants to make one too, all the wood and misc. parts cost me $10.00 at Home Depot, Enjoy, Chellie

When I saw the Ruger 10-22 laying there my first thought was NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

It should make it a lot easier to follow the planes.

neat idea chellie. Besides being able to track the plane the video should be smoother with both hands holding the stock. I'll look forward to your videos.

Hi Ed Soon, If I can get my videos edited , I went flying last weekend, and took some videos, my video editor on windows does not work, I cant even open any windows videos, I have a old computer, its like 8 to 10 years old, need to get a new one soon, I tried to send the video file to Kosh, so he can do some editing for me, but that did not work in yahoo messengers, any way, I down loaded a video editor, and am learning how to use it, I will have to use You Tube or Googles video viewer, anyway thats what were are doing right now, I know that Johnson wants to see the Giant Hydro, so It will be soon, I have to go to video editing school Self Taught, I call it

Thank you Doyle It worked out very very well, I was suprised, my best friend used it to video my plane with, had very litle problem with the slow stick, but the delta proved to be a little more challaging, but worked out better than all other attemps, She said a few bad words trying to keep up with the delta so i need to take those out the delta was flying great, with one of jeffs 1200mah Wow 3 cell lipos, it was doing 60 easy, and 70 in a dive, I was even having a bit of a hard time trying to keep up with it, Its fast, but fun, it covered the park in 3 seconds, one way, yea, I had to back off on the throttle , then I needed a few drinks to calm my nerves take care, Chellie

Ya know its actually been my thinking since I started videoing airplanes that what I realy needed was an iron sight on top of the camera. Most of the time I wind up not trying to look at the viewscreen, or the viewfinder but rather sighting the plane just over the top of the camera.
I've found it much easier to follow a plane that way and keep it in the frame.
So I like this idea of Chellie's, and I am gonna find some type of big circular or square sight to afix to the top of my camera with velcro or somethin.
Actually if they made a viewscreen that could be seen clearly in daylight that would be grand. My viewfinder is plenty big enough as its a widescreen type, but still is nearly impossible to see anything in daylight which is what we are filming in 99% of the time.

Hehe, yeah anything that remotely looks like a gun in these times can get a bit of negative attention from any onlookers and even a visit from the police.

I can tell if someone used the little screen vs. the viewfinder. With the little screen the plane might be in the video screen for about 25% of the time compared to the viewfinder over 75% of the time and mostly centered.
Chellie has a great idea! You'll have better aim and a tighter shot group looking down the sights (viewfinder) than from shooting from the hip (vid screen).
What works for me is that I use the viewfinder but I keep both eyes open when filming.
Might have to give Chellies' idea a try.
