My name is Shahin I am an exchange student in USA.
My host dad works at GE Engines and they construct fighters for US air force. I really got so interested in this that i want to have an RC plane. But i do not want to spend a lot of money on buying one, plus to learn to build one and fly it is more interesting. Is there any step by step guides with pictures in this forum or on internet that i can use for building RC e-powered airplane. I do not have lots of knowledge about this but if you would help me just with some topics or something, i mean just some kinds of step by step web sites or topics on this forum, something that can be helpfull for a beginner. Thank you, Shahin |

When you are learning to fly it is best not to build yourself.
You can get rtf planes like a easystar for maby US$150 (im a aussie so i might have that rong ), they make eccelent trainers. If you still want to build yourslef i would reccomend a STC (no idea what it stands for) but they look like great planes, i am currently building one, and its been very easy so far. they are made of foam, they suggest blucore, but i am using depron. The STC is a high wing trainer style aircraft, and they are great because the material used to make one plan would be about $20US. Of course if you go this route you will have to buy electronics seperatly, this can be confuzing trying to figure out what to buy. If you do buy electronics seperatly then it will end up costing much more than a rtf like a easy star will, but you will get much better gear, which you can use for another plane alfter you have learnt. Hope this helps. Spit |

I second the rtf idea.It takes a lot of time to build and make flight ready a scratch built plane. However I would'nt discourage you from doing it but just not for a first plane.A decent rtf plane that will actually fly can be bought for 85 usd and up
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=HBZ2600 and have everything you need to fly.An arf ( almost ready to fly ) like a slow stick http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=GWS1040 is 35 usd and needs you to install all electrical componets that can add up to 150 usd or more. This will give you a little building experience and if you crash you buy another 35 dollar plane and reuse the electric package.Don't give up your dream of building but maybe build it while you learn to fly on a plane you have'nt invested so much work into.If you are looking for plans you can start your search at a place like this. http://209.196.57.92/ME2/dirmod.asp?...ckyard%20Flyer Jim |

Shahin, welcome to WattFlyer and welcome to the US. I hope you enjoy your stay here.
I would suggest you read several of the sticky items in the beginners forum such as this one that Ed Anderson has prepared. He also has another thread that I could not locate that provided the data on several beginner airplanes. He speaks about the EasyStar suggested by spitace and other options. Hope this helps. |

Shahin,
Most kits will come with step by step instructions. If you want to build, I would suggest a plane from Mountain Models, as your first kit. their planes are easy to build and they fly very nicely. http://www.mountainmodels.com/index.php?cPath=25_29 If you want to build foam, I would suggest the Magpie If you want to build wood, get the SmoothE with the slow fly wing. Wood fuselage with a foam wing. I just finished one of these. Mountain models can provide the servos, esc and the motor as well as the battery. They make it very easy for you. For the Magpie, this would be your lowest cost radio option. Tell them you have this package and they will know what to add. Free Hitec Radio http://forums.flyesl.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=240 For the SmoothE, you will want a little more flexible radio. Hitec Laser - Tell them if you get this package and they will know what to add. If you have more budget, then read this: Don't Buy a Standard Radio http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4454 http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=LXLGF5**&P=ML And this No need to buy a Used Radio http://www.rctower.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1251#1251 However, if you want to get in to flying in the quickest, least expensive way, I would recommend one of these as your first plane: Easy Star - RTF - $175 I have flown the Easy Star - Great plane for new flyers! Super tough foam. Good parkflyer and a good glider In the US the RTF package comes with a 72 MHz radio system that can be used to fly other planes http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/240025.asp http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFXV0&P=ML Easy Star - ARF - Add you own radio gear http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/240009.asp Build Thread http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=350408 http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=459096 Videos http://plawner.org/video/easygo.wmv http://plawner.org/video/easystar.wmv Mods, upgrades and more http://www.mpx-easystar.de/ Add Ailerons - Start at post 195 http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=350408&page=13&pp=15 Travel Box http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=468625&goto=newpost HobbyZone Super Cub - $159 This is the only semi-scale plane on my list. I have not flown this one but the flood of excellent reports leads me to recommend it to new flyers. If you REALLY need a plane that looks like something people would be in, this is the one I will recommend. It takes the same Xport accessories as other HobbyZone and ParkZone planes so you can drop bombs, parachutes and attach other accessories to extend your fun. It has a steerable tail wheel so you can effectively taxi the plane. Great for ROG launches. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=HBZ7100 Photos and Videos http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/ProductGallery.aspx?ProdID=HBZ7100 Other Excellent Video - Hi res for high speed connect users http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=567625#post6040744 http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showatt.php?attachmentid=1051938 manual http://www.horizonhobby.com/ProdInfo/Files/HBZSuperCubManualCropped.pdf Discussions on the Forums http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12218 http://forums.radiocontrolzone.com/showthread.php?p=2130521#post2130521 http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=593044#post6385310 http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=550899 T-Hawk - RTF - Excellent Value - $160-170 This company is really putting together some outstanding packages. I have flown the T-Hawk. Excellent first plane. Get the Extreme value package. It comes with an extra wing, tail and battery. This plane stands up to hard landings Can be flown on 27 MHz or 72 MHz http://www.readytoflyfun.com/thawk3chrtf.html T-Hawk - Without Radio - add your radio and receiver http://www.readytoflyfun.com/wittran.html T-Hawk Buddy Box 72 MHz trainer system - $279 This is really unique! http://www.readytoflyfun.com/t72rtfpatrpa.html T-Hawk Discussion Thread http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=243202&highlight=THawk Videos http://www.readytoflyfun.com/thawkvideos.html Aerobird 3 - $110 - http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=HBZ3600 I started on an Aerobird RTF. I have hundreds of flights on my Aerobirds. I also thermal and slope soar this plane. Flies well and stands up to hard landings. Their add on fun accessories for night flying, air to air combat and drop module add to the fun! The combat module makes a great lost plane locator, even if you don't plan to fly combat. Great keep in the car plane - take off the wing and it goes back in the box fully assembled. Most can't do that! |
