Inspired by and in cooperation with Rick Meeks at Yardbird RC, I modeled the YB-22 Park Jet. This FMS model will really haul buns and is a blast to fly around in high alpha mode. Here's a link to the FMS 2.8 yb-22.zip download. See my website for the FMS 2.7 version. However, the 2.7 version just doesn't compare in slow flight. This link at RCGroups provides details about several different builds of the Yardbird YB-22 Park Jet. This FMS model is faster than 45 m/s or over 100 mph. Kick the YB-22 into a tight loop though and it'll put on the brakes and set you up for some high alpha maneuvers. Watch the full throttle though, it'll go through the roof or over the horizon if you don't use that throttle stick to slow down.... -- ggunners |

There's one of these on the Realflight forum for 3.5 too. Fun little plane to fly.

Has anyone flown this plane that also has the FMS version? How well does it fly compared to real life?

Spencer,
Rick Meeks, the creator of the YB-22 guided me in adjusting the .par file for FMS to more closely model the real airplane. The roll rate was reduced, the elevator throws were increased and the top speed was increased. Check out the video on the Yardbird website. It flys very close to the real bird. -- ggunners |

Cool!
I've messed with FMS before and from my "real-life" flying, the F-27, Aerobirds, E-Starter, Formosa, and T-Hawk (Only planes I could find that I have flowen) were almost nothing like the real thing. It seemed like more of a hobbiests product of some fun typing up some code and somewhat cheap graffics. :/What would be neat would to see someone do a comparation of Realflight to FMS

Spencer,
A lot of those models were ones that I created for FMS and I did solicit feedback from other modelers regarding their flying characteristics. There's a bit of a problem though because not everyone uses the same gear or builds the same. My brother had the Stryker and told be the model was good but rolled a bit too fast. That's all the comments I got for it. On the GWS Formosa, everyone wanted to "skin" it like their own airplane so the only comments I got were regarding the bitmap. Everyone was glassing their birds and putting brushless in them anyway. I don't mean to growse, but <sigh> modelers can only go so far if people will not tell us how to improve the simluation. The other issue is that each model has a single .par file and has to be renamed for every variant. So the best thing I can tell you is don't blame the modeler. Download the model and use the .par editor to make it fly for real. Share your new .par file and when you get consensus from real owner's, pass the .par file back to the modeler. I'd be happy to put a consensus based .par file inside the .zip of the models I made. -- ggunners |

Here's an April 2001 version of the eStarter FMS Model.
I can't tell you how good it is and don't remember where it came from. -- ggunners |
