Default WattFlyer Scratchbuild Contest Guidelines

.
WattFlyer Scratchbuild Contest Guidelines

General Rules

1. All scratchbuilds should be an original design. No purchased plans or kits are allowed to be used to build your plane. Of course there is no way to know if your design is original so it will be based solely upon the "Honor System." All designs and building shall be accomplished during the contest period.

2. Build materials used will be up to the designer/builder unless otherwise specified in the current contest's specifications.

3. Build specifications will be detailed in the current contest's rules such as type aircraft, wingspan, weight, motor size, etc. If these items are not specifically detailed, then the builder is welcome to use whatever he/she desires to meet the aircraft specification requirement for the current contest.

4. Planes entered in the contest will be required to fly successfully. Proof that your design is capable of flying will either be a submitted video, photo, or both if available. Videos and/or pictures of your flying plane will be required to be posted after the voting ends. If an entrant cannot produce proof that their design flies they will be disqualified and positions will adjusted accordingly.

5. Photos of entries will be emailed to the Contest Director (CD) and be posted by him/her for each contest. This will allow anonymity and impartial voting. (Please include name and screen name with submitted photos.) Photos will be required to be emailed prior to the contest deadline. Any photos submitted after the deadline will not be included in the contest. Submitted entries will be judged by a poll starting immediately after the contest deadline. One vote will be allowed per person. The CD will not be allowed to enter the contest he/she is officiating, but the CDs will change with each contest.

6. Build photos will be required for all entries after voting is completed. The first and second place winners will require posting their build photos. It is encouraged that all entrants create a build thread of their design after the contest ends.

7. Entries will be judged on design (how well it meets the specification requirements of the contest), appearance, and flying ability.

8. Although not a mandatory requirement, it is suggested that the builder tell us what lessons were learned during the build process and share any tips or tricks with the WF community.

I have a few questions:

1. Is it open to overseas entrants?
2. As hardware is so much more expensive over here, could you perhaps assign a specific motor that we should use?
3. Is there a limitation on size or materials?

Thanks,

Reuven

Reuven,

The contest is open to all WF members.

See the rules for contest #1 here which should answer your other questions:

I have a question:

Does the plane have to be built during the contest period? i.e. If someone already has built a aircraft that fits the category, can that be submitted provided it meets the other requirements? I didn't see this in the rules...

Yes it does. That is in rule #1.

"All designs and building shall be accomplished during the contest period."

I'm currently building a highly modified blue funder variant, without plans, just based on some photos from the internet and a few of my own ideas.

I am sure i wouldn't win, but hypothetically, would i be allowed to enter such a design or would it be against the rules?

Fortunately i've not started building the thing yet as the foam hasn't arrived. Has the competition now started? If not i wont be able to wait when it does so i'm disqualified by default.

I don't know. If it meets the specs then you are good. If not, then they'll be other contests.
