My converted toy r us foamy lol hehe-flies fantastic though

I bought one of those $5 foamy hand toss gliders at t r us and did some modifying to it as seen in the photo.
This actually flies very smooth and stable and go fly real slow or real real fast, it does loops w/np at all especially since i replaced the whole rudder and elevator.
I took the motor and esc out of this that never did fly> http://store.cubeberry.com/servlet/Detail?no=64 and used it.

I dunno what size motor it is suppose to be but it came w/a 11.1 volt 1250mah battery and its actually to strong for what i need in this glider plane in the pic so i use the battery out of my blade cx heli and it runs everything just fine, oh and i used the servos out of it also.

As i said it flies great and will glide all by itself w/motor off and does thermals for 30 mins if i wish.

It is amazing that it all went together just fine and i didnt have to adjust anything.

Good job! I've got a similar glider I bought for the exact same reason. I may start working on my conversion this next week. I hope I have as much success as you did.

Hey bud, what a great job u did w/yurs for sure!!
Yea the first one i did was i took the motors and all orig storm launcher rc equip and installed it on one of these as in my pic and put one motor on each wing half way out and it flew great also however it finally weakend in the fuse from a few crashes into telephone poles and such that i retired it.
I see what u have done and i have isx more still in their platic bags unopened and im gonna copy what u have done.

Will yurs hover w/yur motor configuration?

Anyway i need to put some more support under my wings as it flies great but i do notice the wings are flexing alot in flight and afraid that if i keep pulling hard loops with it that they will eventually snap and its not a matter of if but when.

So i think the best option for me is to run some balsa sticks maybe under the wings non stop from the fuse to their tips.
I cant tell what u have on yurs in the pic but u must have some type structure on/in or under the wings to help strenghthen them correct?

Steve has built more of these and has had more success than anyone else.
You can get a lot of ideas from Steve.

I used packing tape on the wings to stop the flexing.
These things are a lot of fun to fly, and cheap too.

Who makes the blue foam ones and what store did you find it at? It looks like the foam that is more rubbery, not the beer cooler stuff, that chunks out and shatters so bad.

Hi Bob,
It's from Hobby People, part# 800502 SkyShark Skyshark Stunt Plane . They have it on their webpage but no pic or anything. Also the web shows it as limited avail, but my local store always has them.
Yes, the foam is RC quality AND is CA SAFE!!!!! Very similar to the Easy* foam, very good stuff easy to work with.

Good luck man. You know I've been looking for a FFF design that would let me practice my wing fabrication chops, and I think you hit on it. Did you do this one from plans? IF not, what are the wing dimensions you settled on?

I have a load of FFF and CF rods and an Atlas 400XT just waiting to come together and take to the sky

Winds 8mph to 10mph and gusting to 15mph but I couldn't wait.
Maidened her anyway and it was a huge success! Incredibly stable and handles the wind very well. She will glide about 50' when launching before I have to apply throttle. It's amazing to see how much flex there is in the wing coming out of a wot dive but the cf spar kept things intact. This plane is a keeper for sure. My daughter is a student at ASU and I have to take her up there for a job interview tomorrow but maybe when I get home I can get some video to share.

I didn't do this from plans, but I got the inspiration from several threads on another forum. If you need plans then you might want to take a look at this thread. There are several more threads if you just Google "rc boomers".
This thing flys so good that I will probably build a much smaller one for a 16g brushless motor I have sitting on my work bench.

I was flying close to the trees like that because I was trying to stay as far from the public as possible. I was wearing the hat-cam and felt like a total dork!

Ahahaha I saw the thumbs and thought for a second that your hat-cam had yellow Thor wings on it like something out of that bad 80's movie version of Flash Gordon!

I was gonna give you triple points for flying near the trees and wearing a hat cam with wings on it!

But yeah dorky for sure. The things we do for our hobby. The other day I was flying my PZ J-3 at my local park when some couple's dog decided to charge me, barking its head off. Needless to say I was so distracted that I got into a cheesy stall and recovered just in time to shear the LG off of my poor, long-suffering cub.

I think the guy with the dog was laughing at me. In a fit of pique I said under my breath something about him having trouble walking two dogs, I dunno. I felt like an idiot lol.
