I maidened her this morning despite the windy conditions again today. I will blame the wind for the little mishap in the first video, but as you can see from the second one, she still flys well with a wrinkled nose.
The second wing does allow me to slow her down more. I'm gonna wait for a calm day to fly her again so I can get her balanced correctly. Overall, I think this is a successful build and definately a keeper.

Man that's awesome. I'm concerned about wing loading too, as I have shortened my wings by about 7 inches.

That's the 48" chuck glider you are converting right? I used a 2410-08 with 1300mAh 3s lipo on my 48" boomer and it floats pretty good. Your 2409-18 weighs about the same as my bl motor. Even with the shorter wings you should be ok. What size battery will you be using?

Power Up 1300mAh 3s, like yours. With the 10x5E prop it puts out near 30oz of thrust, which is more than enough for this project, though the structural reinforcements do add some weight.

I'm dragging my feet a little because I want to make sure I mount the tail where it needs to be. I've spent at least an hour working on the vertical stab, and I don't wanna screw it up by mounting the empennage crooked.

I'm also gonna add a turtledeck with a canopy to make it look more like a plane... already got the magnets I need for that, and I am pondering what sort of cowl I need to add.

Default It Flies!

No one is as surprised as I am. Took it out and chucked it this evening: let's just say it has a LOT of roll control . Climbs like nobody's business. Elevator control surface is too big, so I'll hack on that before I put it up for another trim-out and shakedown. Think there might be too much gap between the wing and the aileron, so I'm hunting up some Blenderm for that.

It cruised almost vertical with the new motor (might be a tad tail heavy) but no erratic behavior. Did lose a prop landing it, but it was one of those cheapy snot-colored APC knock-offs, so I have 10 more lol.

Well that's a weight off my mind - I am just glad all this work has not (yet!) been in vain.

I was too nervous to strap on the hat-cam, but video will follow.

Here's my version. We have a local grocery store called Winco and since I purchased my foam tosser kits there I've named them the Winco Flyer Series.

I built up a singe and it flew so great that we decided to build up a Winco twin.

Here's a full link to the buildup on it: http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?p=232123

Here's a few pics of the Winco twin. Still flying great!

Hey Steve, don't hold back man! That is a nice looking set of components you've got layed(sp?) out there. Looks like Christmas came early to Florida! Let us know how it goes when you get her back from maiden voyage. Eat it up.

Okay, you've got my attention. This one I will have to follow to see where it's going. Push-me-pull-you, eh? I am intrigued.

Sweeeeeeeeet! Counter-ro-taters! Can't wait to see the vids. Took my new one "Charles the Third" lol out yesterdee, was gettin' crazy with it as it is quite fast and has a lot of roll in it, and put it about 40 feet up a tree. Ended up punching a hole in the LE of one wing trying to rescue it from the great limbed beastie. No worries, I broke it down, put a final coat of H20 as a primer on the fuse and painted it with my Testors Ford "Ultraviolet Pearl", sectioned out the damaged part of the wing and glued in some 'replacement' foam lol, gonna hit it up tomorrow with some sanding and spackle and maybe a coat of paint or two. Gettin a tad heavy but the motor still makes it climb like crazy! Most of the weight is from the 1300mAh methinks. Still haven't decided what to do for a turtledeck/canopy!

Almost got my Funder & Lightning done, doing it with a hollow fuse cause I hate havin the 'lectrical bits on the outside if I can help it. Hope to have that up for a shakedown tomorrow. Got my FlyCamOne2 in the mail so I might strap it on too!

yours in chucky bubbitude,
GRU

Hey Groundrushesup, if you use Gorilla glue on your foam repair you won't gain any weight (or much). I have not noticed any weight gain that effected performance on any foamies. Maybe I'm just lucky? Anyhoo, you know how much I like your planes.

Stevebub, I am curious on how the counter rotating props are going to work. I'm a little slow in the conceptual department. I can see the (as usual) beautiful setup of the cowling and motors, but are you really going to have props turning in opposite directions on the same prop shaft? I am waiting for further pictures while I digest this information.

your favorite voyaging cat.

P.S. Push-me-pull-you= motor in front and rear of nacelle mounted on same stick; Doh!

Okay, I am reading your transmission (not the one in your car!). The starboard prop turns clockwise and the port prop turns counterclockwise, thus negating torque. Am I speaking the right language now?

P.S. You're going to try and fly that badboy today, aren't you?

"Dum spiro spero." (While I breathe, I hope).

yep, and just like a screw can be threaded 'backwards' one of the prop's blades are pitched in the opposite direction.

and about g'riller gloo - I have the big $20 jar, and i only use hot glue to 'spot-weld' parts in place before hitting them with GG. :P
