Default Buying parts for the Futaba 9C?

Somehow I managed to crack the clear overlay for the LCD screen on my 9C. The LCD is fine. I just can't stand to see the crack there. It drives me nuts that my baby is broken. Futaba is going to want me to send it back for a few weeks and probably $100.00 for repair. That ain't happenin'. I know there are a few radio shops out there that do repairs like this. I'd like to get the part (or the entire front cover if necessary) and do it myself. I can handle the replacement on my own. I can't handle the wait without my radio. Anyone have suggestions for places to check with for Futaba parts?

Joe, try just calling up Futaba service. I dropped a water bottle on my tx last summer and broke a stick off. I didn't want to wait and pay shipping so I called and they send out just the parts I needed for 5 bucks shipped. I was very happy and fixed my own problem after just a few days. I thought they'd want me to send it in but I just asked for parts only and that I'd crack the case myself and they obliged.

Hmmm....Maybe I should give them a try. If RadioSouth can't help I'll call Futaba. I just (wrongly) assumed they would be a pain to try and get parts from.

Well now....this was a lot less painful than I expected. I got an e-mail from Radio South saying give them a call. I did and now I have the clear lens as well as the entire chrome faceplate on the way for $21.95. My radio is going to look like new again. Thanks for the tip Ken!

Joe, glad I could help. I've bought toggle switches from them for a couple of 8UAF transmitters that fell and were broken. Very pleased with their service.

Thumbs up

I missed a voice mail on my phone from Ben at Radio South. It seems the 9CAP clear lens I need is out of stock and it may be a week or two to get it. That's cool. It was nice of him to call back to let me know. He has a 9CHP lens but I want to keep it original. I'm pretty doggone happy with them so far. If I ever need radio service in the future I know who I'll call.

Question Futaba 9C Display Screen Replacement

Hi Anybody,
Just likeTurboJoe, I also have a Futaba 9C Super that I am refurbishing and I wanted to replace the clear screen that sits on top of the LCD display. I got the replacement part from Futaba no problem (it is an adhesive backed clear plastic with the labels and printing you normally see - eg. like 9C Super PCM Computer Radio etc).

My question is: the old one is stuck on very well and is it just a matter of peeling that one up and sticking the new one down? Is there a trick to doing this or is that all there is to it?

Hopefully somebody has done this and can ease my pain before I mess up my radio.

Thanks for any advice/suggestions you might have ...
Dave

Dave,

I was going to reply to your P.M. but thought it might be best to post to the thread.

I wish I could help you but I picked up some clear lens covers a long time ago. You know the ones like you use on smart phones. The crack in my lens disappeared so I didn't need to replace it! I still have all the parts I ordered in a bag for when I finally damage the main cover. Then I'll go through and make it look like new again. I would worry more about getting the new lens centered than getting the old one off. I'm sure it's stuck on there pretty good and will take a little prying but it shouldn't damage anything else.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the quick feedback. After PM'ing you I thought it would be better for others to post as well.

Actually, I was wondering if just putting on a screen protector might do the trick too. Maybe I should try that first. Do you remember where you got yours?

Thanks
Dave

I can't believe I actually found this old link. It still works too! 9C Screen Protectors I hope this helps.

I think I will get one for my 10G as well.

Where you been, how you been? I have not seen you in a while.

Hey Mike. I was planning to fly this weekend for the first time in forever but have family visiting since Thursday. Maybe at the bowl next weekend. I have a couple of Mountain Models planes to maiden.

Hey Joe,

Thanks for that. My screen's not so bad so I'll save the new screen for another time and go the protector route. Good idea.
Thanks!

Dave,

I hope they work as well for you as they did for me. I couldn't be happier with mine and the original is still on there.

I've been trying for over a year to fly. Who knows where I might end up if anywhere.
