I havent seen one yet. It would require major mods to the fuse for the conformal tanks etc.

I think I need a signature.

Default Sad Day...

Well folks, I finally did it...I crashed her. I hadn't flown her in months and went to meet up with a couple wattheads this past weekend. I noticed when I put the battery in and did my checks, that the "Delta" mode on my DX7 was off! So I fixed that and all control surfaces were working like they should. I also noticed that all my trim adjustments were gone too!! I should have rebound her but didn't. I figured it would be like a 2nd maiden.

Well I tossed her up and away she went. I had some serious up elevator adjustments to do, but that wasn't too difficult. But then I could not get her to turn right!! She landed inverted and broke the vertical stab clean off and the front of the fuse behind the cockpit. She will be a quick fix, but not something I ever wanted to do. Sure am glad I silked her, lol. I'll post pics later today.

Keep her flying folks!

Mike,

I've broken mine in the same places more times than I can remember. Always went back together quickly and flew just as great!

My second one suffered the foam confetti syndrome after plowing in nose first at full speed. The debris field was amazing!

Got a bare kit sitting in the garage and will get the fiberglass package from Air Sally over at RCGroups and will put a HET6904/2W20 in it!

I think I'm gonna start on the repairs this coming weekend. I wanna resilk her all together and then repaint her. Shouldn't add too much weight at all. I think I'll do the repairs, maiden her, then we'll see where we stand on a new paint job.

Been wanting another one anyways, lol. We'll see.

mike,

if your not denting it or crumpling a wing or fuse, then in my humble opinion
you ain't flying enough. . . . don't worry about it being pretty, they all look the same at 50feet and 80 mph....

Ha ha, I've had some ugly looking F-16s too. Lots of cracks filled with epoxy, flaked off paint, scratched decals. But they still flew fast! At 80 mph you couldn't see the blemishes.

Default Where do I buy "silk", , for maiden Phase 3-f-16

Will be building a few more phase 3 f-16 kits out, Have finished my first one with a Detrum 70mm , 3000KV w/60amp esc I had in inventory. Very hard to work the fan in, with the big lip it has. Will maiden her first windless day with a 4 cell 2200 40 c mah Blue lipo. From the looks of her with the reduced discharge cone on her tail, an the intake assisted by the 2 side intake ducts, She should be very fast,

I will go with some wicked edf's from don on the next 2.

Where can I but the Silk that is used on this thread. I did see somewhere where a water based polyuretine was painted on. I like the concept. I have been using clear packing tape all over some other airframes with a lot of luck, even on a spin an crash, the broken area holds together for the most part. Peel an cut back the tape repair, retape an your up. Clear packing tape as well slicks the airframe an reduces drag a lot.

silking looks to be a step up from my taping jobs.

tks for the help Guys ,,

You would be better off glassing than silk. Glass it and she will hold at 145 MPH + ..........

Default USMC , Glassing??

Hi USMC in Sunny CA, Tks for the response. Very well done plane,

Ive been in the hobby about a year an half, Still have a dynam Meteor an a lot of war birds. Flew a second hand phase 3 64mm squall an recently got into the phase 3 f-16 kits, for their economical kit prices.

I have gotten pretty godd at repair an building out kits, however still green on finishing.

I don't have any experience in glassing. If you could point the way as to what I would need an where to get it, I'll give it a go at glassing them out.

As well as how to glass them. I am very happy with this web site, , the large archives can be daunting, Most likely glassing is explained somwhere.

I would appreciate any an all halp from members.

I am a retired Master residential repair an drain Plumber, if anyone needs help in that area.

Fly every day,

Alabamadude...just type in a search (google) " glassing foam models" you will find a ton of info. It's difficult at first but you get better the more ou do it. Personally I like to use finishing resin because of the strength and finish it gives. I would suggest starting with water based poly for a few planes them movin on to finishing resin once you get the hang of it. Time consuming but well worth it

Btw I moved to Texas... Guess i should update my location

Default Expo and rates? on Phase 3 F-16

Tks USMC for the advice on glassing I will look into that.

Now Ive just about finished this kit out. Ive got a detrum 3000 kv 70 mm 60 amp
esc an a 2200 an 2650 4 cell batteries 40 c dicharge .

Ive flow my dynam meteor with the same motor quite a bit 40 + flights an have experience with elevons on the phase 3 squall.

What is a good expo to run till I get the feel for her.

I was thinking 45 percent lowrate with 30 expo

and 90 percent high rate with 45 expo.. ?

What do yall thing on watt flyer

AF Dude
the f-16 is an easy flyer, set up the elevons as per directions and you should be fine. After the maiden flight and you get her trimmed and flying level I would put a small dot on the side of the fuse at whatever "neutral" point your elevons sit at. that way you can always put em back in the same spot if you have to remove them or they loosen up or whatever. Looks like the most limiting factor in your setup is the battery. Gonna be some short flights with a 2200. I would go with the 2600
it's easy to open the battery bay up for larger sizes. Mine flies on a 4 cell 65c 3300 Mah and the canopy still fits just fine

I pulled out my poor ol beaten up F16 from a 2 yr sleep and ripped its guts out, stuck the new Alloy 10 blade fan in it and now it gets flown more than anything else!

Listen to the video, and you will see why I love flying it again...

This fan here: http://www.extremerc.com.au/estore/i...oducts_id=1101

Running a Lightning 80A esc and ELITE 3200mah 4s1p 35c pack. The pack is an equivalent to Hyperion G3 etc in quality. I was running a 2600mah in the video but the 3200 drops in nicely and gives me more flight time. The fan is quite unique and I am flying it at half throttle most of the time, it maintains speed at half better than the wemo I pulled out, sounds freakin awesome too!

Holy Shamoly! That's the best paint job I've ever seen. You, sir, are a true artist.
It would be a shame to see it suffer the fate of most of our planes. Maybe you shouldn't fly it. Display only! Nah, what fun would that be?
An artist must create so...the sooner it's chewed up, the sooner you can start on your next masterpiece.
Bravo! Very well done.
Bud

Talking f16 motor

hi there, had an f16 a few years ago, fancy another with power upgrade as i have flown a few funjets on 4 cells which are quite impressive. my question is can you fly the f16 on 4 cells with just a speed controller upgrade , or won t the motor handle it.

Hopefully I'll have the silking done tomorrow and can start on the paint. I'm only going to paint the bottom of the plane and wings. I'll paint the top when she's put together. I want tiger stripes on her so bad, but still need to see if i can do it. I bought some stencil plates that allows you to draw your own and use a razor to cut them out. I just have to figure out how to draw a few tiger stripes.

I'll be replacing the stock ESC with a Pheonix 35A ESC instead. Not saying the stock ESC isn't any good, but I want that piece of mind.
