Need I say I refuse to repare it this time? I am in the processes of scraping my old Firebird C-2 to see if I can use the body for some structure. If anyone has a nice body they don't need, i could surely take it off your hands! |

Well that's not the planes fault. I assume it was a flat foamy?

yeah, I'm giving it another chance. I glued the pieces and letting them set over night. Tomorrow (wind providing) I'm going to take it up to the school and try again. aiming for a higher altitude.
I have to say that my new TT-01 rc car (dispite that it is stuck in the pits until I get a new driveshaft for it, bent it while installing ball bearings) has given me much needed confidence in flying my plane, lol. |

Haha, I used to have a tt-01 , they're fun
.Just make sure you fly it with a slightly nose up attitude. The flat foamies don't have airfoils, so they make lift by angle of attack. |

So you mess up the prop putting it together, then crash it due to the wind... Why the title "a lemon among RC planes"?

it didn't crash because of the prop, it crashed after I fixed it. A more appropriate title would have been cursed plane i guess.

Sorry to hear it didn't go well. Hopefully you'll get it squared away and it'll fly better for you now. Good luck. |

Well, i got it fixed and the winds were perfect today. I got 2 flights (a total of at least 6 minutes in the air). The second landing proved fatal for the plane. The right wing dipped and caught the ground, slamming the whole plane nose first into the ground. I inspect the damage and determine it is not repairable but all the electronics are salvagable. It hit so hard, infact, that the propeller came off the propsaver!
Now I am going to build another flat foam model but this time, instead of the 3mm thickness of this plane, I am going 6-7mm thickness. That should be much more sturdy and I might be able to fashion an airfoil in it as well. Or I might just make it into a 4 channel robot, who knows. It was still a blast to fly while it was able to fly. |

Stick with the planes dude! Long road but still lots of fun. You got the electronics.... Even the best pilots still crash. Just not as much as when they were learning.

Well, I'm not going into gas planes anytime soon and the electrics i fly prefer the low winds.
On the other hand, electric rc cars don't care what the wind speed is. And my plane is kinda on the sidelines for the time being, lol. |

Maybe you need something not as hard to fly as the Extra?

Well, when I got it in the air, I was able to fly it good. It only crashed at the last second before landing. I won't be flying it anytime soon but I can reuse the main wing. and maybe some of the extra as a base.
My opinion of the plane is it is way too thin for flying outside. Well, I'm going to make it thick enough to withstand crashes outside a lot better. It'll just take a while. |

I like the flat foamies outside, especially in the wind. It just takes some practice.
You've never truely flown, untill you have flown backwards .

Yeah. I didn't quite get backwards but I did get it to fly in place.
