These look pretty cool, and a lot quicker to build, Ill try one out next week. I think I throw the drawing onto a full scale PDF tomorrow, i can attach it if anyone wants.

Well I made the PDF, but the file is about 3x larger than what the form will allow me to attach so you can view it here (it takes a second to load)

Gonna get started on mine tonight. I maidened my warbird last night but had some issues and the motor ended up coming off of its mount. I decided instead of wasting time repairing it I'll just make the F&F.

James- where do you purchase your CF locally?

Thanks for the pdf Krys. I didn't see any measurements on the plans, what is the wingspan?
I will take the file to Kinko's and get them blown up to full size. I've been meaning to get with James to get a copy, but I just haven't done it yet.

The PDF just uses the measurements of the the drawing in the first post with a 32" wingspan.

I built my F&F today and got its first maiden flight in, man was it touchy.
here is a video my buddy shot with my iphone.

it was a little windy and this little thing was a handful. I flew with the battery pack located on top of the wing, so i might try it out on the side of the fuse just to see if that calms it down at all. Plus it seemed like it was tailheavy, although I checked the CG and even move it foward a bit.

Nice photos and video and thanks for the pdf file. What we have found out in our group there are no 2 of us that flies the same as far as the controls throws goes. I use more elevator than ailerons during combat and also a little more nose heavy. We have some guys that fly tail heavy a little. The main thing I have seen on this plane too much aileron will make it snap at low speed. I know because I have done this a few times from about 30 foot of the deck.Anyhoo hope you have fun with it and talk some of your buddy's doing some cheap combat.

Hey Krys, we missed you this morning at the Unclub. I Just finished my F&F last week and got it flying pretty good. There are pictures and video's of it on the E-Combat in Tulsa thread. We did have 4 planes flying combat. It's a lot of fun in 15-20mph wind. Thats another positive about the F&F, they handle the wind alot better.

Good the here you guys got out and flew a few shorties with the F&F. Your right they do handle the wind better than the WWII planes we use to fly.Keep us informed on what's going on in your area.

Default Another F&F

I'm trying to get my club to start up some combat flying, so I just built a F&F plane myself. First time I've built a plane from foam. I've been a balsa builder upto now. It's just a prototype and I want to see if it will fly so i can then show it to others at the field. It's cheap enough that I'm sure others will jump in if it flys like the others I've seen in videos.

Smoke, thanks for this thread and the information in your Combat in Tulsa thread...

I just need to program the TX and then she's ready! Tomorrow should be the maiden.

Look'in good Steve. I'm going to post a picture of my plane with the 2 popsicle sticks glue to a weak point on the plane. Mike came up with idea which really stiffens the rear of the plane up in case of a mid-air. Also notice the 2 prop marks from another plane.

Buzzsaw, thanks for the picts and tips. Using popsicle sticks sounds like a nice cheap method to strengthen the tail.

My maiden went well, but I have a couple of issues...

1st under high throttle the plane wants to climb a lot.. I need to add some down thrust, but that's hard to do with a stick mount. Does flipping the motor mount over so the motor is on top help this? it seems like it might.

2nd. This plane is sneaky fast, but I was getting some wing flutter at high speeds. Would some tape on the wings help?

Flip the motor over should take care of it. We all run with it on top. Are you using a carbon rod on the leading edge? It looks like you are using some green foam. It may take a piece of tape span wise to stiffen the wing a little. We have built over a 100 of these planes over the past couple of years. Hope this helps. Keep asking question if you have any more problems.

Default Flutter

Steve the noise you may be hearing is on a dive the prop flexing. GPS props seem the do that alot because of the flex.

I'll try flipping the motor over... I'm using blue fan fold foam from Lowes. It's pretty flexible... and I'm just using a wood dowel not Carbon Fiber for the leading edge. I can see it flex a little while flying, but nothing serious.

So it maybe the prop I'm hearing... I never thought of that. With my work schedule and how early it gets dark here now, I'll won't get a chance to fly it again until the weekend. I'll try again then.

Buzzsaw & I went out this morning for a head to head between the F&F and the new Stingray designed by Ken of the SE Michigan ecombat group. The two designs are about as evenly matched as you can get IMO. Like the Tulsa group & others, we're also playing w/ the Assassin & feel it is superior to our No Mercy design for Full contact.

Mike and I flew around 6 rounds with our assassins yesterday with only a slight hit and they both kept flying. Donnie also flew his swift 2 with a slight hit also. I was flying mine with a F&F combat motor 2408-21 and he had a emax motor 2812 and really couldn"t see much difference between the 2 motors as far as speed. As soon as the weather breaks we'll start flying our F&F and our "NO Mercy" shorties and I'll start posting again.
