Default J-3 Cub for fms,

does anyone have a J-3 Cub for FMS? I've purchased a 3 channel from
nitroplanes and want to practice before the real thing.
Thanks
don

Here's a Japanese site with a lot of FMS planes. It's pretty much all in Japanese but the planes I've tried so far work very nice.

http://rcp.web.infoseek.co.jp/fms_aircraft_e.html

This guy in particular has a couple of nice 4 channel J3s called "litecub" and "litecubfloat". His SE5a ain't bad either. Seems to fly alot like my Eflite Nieuport 17. The cubs and "liteSE5" are the last three models on the page.

A newer FMS 2 alpha 8.5 cub is located here at Liebestraume95's web site. It is a very nice 3D model and very good .par file.

That one does feel very realistic although I've never actually flown the PZ cub. The 4 channel ones I mentioned earlier, "litecub" ect., are nice but they seem way too easy to fly. A J3 that's near impossible to stall or spin can't be right.

So far I've found your Supercubs to be the most challenging (tundra cub is my favorite) and true to life. I have to say though they need alot of up trim to fly at anything below full throttle on my computer.

Try editing the .par file and changing the wing incidence or the CG. Wing incidence higher angle or move the CG back a bit. I use Mr. Masuoka's ParEdit for editing the .par files.

Thanks for that tip. I used ParEdit to input -0.03 to the CG of the Tundra Cub. I like it. Have to hold the nose down a bit in level full throttle, but it turns flatter and deadstick landings float better.

I'm amazed at the complexity of what goes into one of these sim models. I couldn't imagine building one from scratch.

Thanks again......Mike

Mike, if you get too much up angle at full throttle, adjust the motor angle downward a bit and see if the throttle/pitch sensitivity goes down. Balancing a model in pitch sensitivity is trial and error adjusting CG, motor pitch and wing incidence angle. -- ggunners

Well, "hold the nose down" probably was not a good way to say it. It's got a fairly gentle steady climb at full throttle and can now be flown at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle without any up trim and/or constantly holding back on the elevator stick. That's pretty much all I was looking for. If I get bored flyin it I might go back into ParEdit and play around some more.
