(*note* - this is not 'official' club communique, simply a means for members to chat about our interests. I would welcome feedback from non members who have experianced a similar situation in their club. Heck, come check out our club and fly with us!) |

In case you don't know: Quacker = Ira
I am generally in favor of of a crossing runway but I can't say how often the need arises at the field. Can anyone comment on this? If the need is only occasional, I'd be more inclined to want pit improvements. Q |

The main idea of a perpendicular runway, on my mind, would be to be longer. If you cannot land in crosswind, don't fly or practice on the simulator and if you don't have one, ask for help. There will be someone to teach you how.

Here's some food for thought.
If you added to the pit/taxi area you would have enough Geotex left over to add about 50-65 feet to the end of the existing runway. That area of the field is already graded level and is relatively free of holes. Thus probably zero additional cost to the club. If instead you take what's left after lining the pit/taxi area and apply it to a cross wind runway you have two choices. 1. Lay out the leftover single width and you'll get about 90 to a 110 feet that can be used for a 17 foot wide crosswind runway. 2. Double the width and you cut the length in half. In either case the ground will have to be cleared of debris, weeds etc. and leveled somewhat. Cost to the club is undetermined at this time. My vote would be for laying out the pit/taxi area first then take the leftover and put it on the end of the existing runway as an extension. That can be done at minimal cost to the club. Well you have my two cents!!! Ed Greeott |

For those of you who don't know, GOOFYCAKES = PHIL
I think Ed is on to something that is worth more than 2 cents. This could still be a fall project and improve our winter flying at LEAF. It is very seldom that we have snow that stays over three days in Longmont. Maybe next spring we could do the the other runway after a review of next years budget. I would even be open to a special assessment from the membership to support that project. I think it is time to make this a real flying field. Does anyone know what happened at the last meeting? I was in WI to visit my son. |

It took me days to get activated on wattflyer. What's with that? There activation Email did not come through. Then they sent me an Email 3 days latter wanting to know why I didn't activate
?? So then when I did try to activate with their activate message twice it was rejected. So I sent then a message saying it would not work and then the third time it worked. So now I am one of US and you are all going to have to put up with my GOOFY comments. Phil

Boy..... It's disappointing to see the lack of interest in using this forum as a tool for improved communication with our club members.
I just can't believe that EVERYBODY is so busy with everything that they can't post a quick hello, shut-up or whatever. Anyone have any suggestions as how this communication link can be improved ![]() Ed: |

Darell,
I totally lost interested in participating in the local field after a couple of meetings. The reason was that there was a bunch of people that don't even fly calling the shots. I'm sorry if I'm going to piss some people off, but truth to be told. Meetings were a joke and if you suggested an improvement, because you actually fly there it was seen as an offense to those that are actually there. Before Ed and Mark joined the club there was two guys flying there frequently, me and Steve. Months would go by until you would see someone flying there with you. Now that LEAF is having more current fliers and there's more involvement I strongly believe we will increase the number of members and meet people often at the field. And now a big new regarding an activity for this club is the following flier showing a Winter Fun-Fly at LEAF in November 14th. We would like to invite everyone to see, fly, learn or just hang-out with some of us. Take care and thank you Darrel for you support and interested in trying to make this field active and recognized. |

I think we should try to communicate via our web site. If we had some sort of a code like our gate combo to get into member area it would keep it private.
Antonio, Sorry you have to work and can't fly early in the morning like us retired guys. That is the best time as there is no wind and the sun in not much of a bother. This also may change with the colder weather and I may decide to sky more. He He ![]() Looking forward to the Winter Fly-In. Phil |

Hi..... seems like this has become our own personal blog site.
Glad to hear some honest comments about personal experiences/feelings with the club. Keep the suggestions, as well as the comments, coming as this is what gives the club the vitality that it desperately needs. Looking forward to the upcoming fun fly, hopefully the weather will be good to us. Thanks Antonio for suggesting this fly-in. Ed
