This plane seems to be getting solid reviews. Performance seems to match that of a modified Easy Star.

The only thing that bothers me is that it's made by Dynam ... who has a somewhat bad quality record with heli ESCs. But I've yet to see a bad review. Only con I've read is that the RX has a shorter range .. and that was just one person.

There's some pretty crazy mods out there too ... Cutting the wings and adding more motors.

Beginner Pilot Tips:

1) Re-enforce the plane with some clear packaging tape. (wing edges and the fuselage)

2) Bend the control surfaces back and forth a few times before securing to the control horns so you get max control throws from the hinges.

3) Put a dab of glue on the bolts so they don't come off during flight. Make sure the tighten screws are TIGHT before flight as well. You may put a dab of glue on these as well.

4) Always make sure your control surfaces (elevator, rudder, and ailerons) are in their proper trimmed position before flight (in general ... flat with the wing surface).

5) Make sure the control surfaces are fully functional before flight. Move your sticks and make sure the elevator, rudder, and ailerons are moving correctly.

6) If throwing the plane ... throttle up to 50-75% and throw the plane like you would a football. Let it fly for a second or two and then give it some elevator.

7) Be EASY on the throttle. Intimidating speed for a new pilot. These things WILL get up and go!

8) Your first few flights would be better in little to no wind. If there IS wind ... land against the wind or else the plane will glide with the wind and you'll over shoot your landing.

The more I read ... the more I'm convinced of buying this instead of the Easy Star.

Just as durable, more power, glides better, comes with more, and it's cheaper.

Indeed ... I will be asking about its durability compared to the EZ as soon as I'm able to post over there.

In the video he hits the wing and nose into the ground going at higher speeds. The magnetic fuselage cover came off ... and THAT WAS IT!

Dave insists that this is a better option than the Easy Star (cheaper with more) and that it's made from the same material. A few experienced pilots who bought this on youtube say the same. Asked about durability on RCp and got a pretty funny response.

Was it a Dynam Hawk Sky version B? Under $100 would be a great price. The only people I know of selling the "B" version is Nitroplanes.

Received my HS yesterday. Pretty simple build. The biggest pain is pulling the motor wires into the fuselage (just do it one wire at a time). The aileron servo wires can be a pain as well but I finally decided to let them hang on the outside just a little. Allows you to connect the wings and acts as a wedge.

Installed velcro on the ends of the winds as well to help keep them nice and tight. Attempted my first flight today but was unsuccessful. I didn't have enough elevation which I believe was due to the decal stickers. I cut the decals around the elevator hinge a bit better tonight and will hopefully fly tomorrow. I seem to have proper elevator control now.

This thing is truly durable. So far I'm happy I bought this over the Easy Star.

Well ... I finally flew the Hawk Sky today ...

HOLY FRIGGIN COW! This thing will go A LOT faster than I thought it would. And boy! it does glide very very well.

Unfortunately I was flying in 10mph winds and couldn't get a clean landing. I kept miss-judging it's glide ability and it would pass me.

How durable is this plane? LOOK OUT FOR THAT 25 FOOT PINE TREE! Yeah ... I didn't see it coming. Now ... I don't know how fast I was going but it was fast enough to move most of the branches and shake all the snow off the tree!

What was the damage?



Yeah .. it's a new plane and it sucks to get it dirty. But at the speed I hit the tree with ... I was AMAZED that this was the only damage. The plane flew fine after the damage to the wing as well.




I'm not sure WHEN this one happened ... but pretty sure it was when I landed right in the middle of some small pine trees.


All and all the damage isn't too bad ... I'll just use tape to cover the bends. Frankly ... I SHOULD have put tape on the wings before hand but completely forgot. No more 10mph winds for me until I can get the hang of it. (at least that's what I keep telling myself )

Hi. I am going to be buying this plane when it's back in stock.

I want to get a spare battery so that I can be charging one while using the other.

What is a good spare battery? Can I get a slightly bigger battery that will last longer?

The Zippy 3S 2200mah batteries are popular ...

The Hawk Sky uses EC3 battery connectors stock ... so you'll want to buy EC3 connectors or an adapter.

Cool thanks. I read somewhere about this thing called a "balancer" for charging the batteries. Can you explain why it's needed and what it does other than the obvious?

Does the stock Hawk Sky come with a "balancer"? Also, any other simple mods to get for this plane when I place the order, like a different prop?

The charger that came with my Hawk Sky says it's a balance charger but I haven't tested it. Balancing simply means that each cell of the battery is charged the same. This keeps all the cells at their proper voltage ... which in return helps with the life of your battery.

You don't have to use the ailerons .. you simply disconnect the servo wires from the receiver. But I personally think ailerons make a plane easier to fly. Feels more natural.

Yes! I need the ailerons, but was not sure if you can drop them both or do they only go up/down with the other side doing the opposite.

I forgot the correct name, but looking if you can make both ailerons (right,left) drop at the same time?

Oh ... you mean flaperons and spoilerons. It can't do this stock ... you have to use a more advanced TX/RX. It comes stock as a 72mhz 4 channel system.

Most planes won't allow you to do that stock ... you'll need a 6ch+ radio system.

Thanks for link - that looks like a decent radio. I asume that the transmiter with that radio works with the stock servos in the Hawk Sky?

Oh yeah ... you simply replace the receiver. No problems.

You can either attempt to pull out the original antenna or remove it from the stock receiver and just leave it in there incase you go back to stock on it.

Just yesterday they said 4-6 weeks before they got any. Now the same person is saying they have a lot in stock, which if we merge the two, this means that they only have 5 of these planes minus one I just ordered

Haha! Well to be fair ... they probably just gave you a max date that they might receive them. If they tell you they'll have them in two days and then they don't ... you're more likely to be upset.

They need to put GPS tracking units on these chinese boats.
