Maiden Flight VIDEO! C-130 Hercules GWS

Awesome! built stock but (2-2100 TP Lipo Batteries)
Thanks to GWS for these great little airplanes, "keep them coming"

This plane flies really good, I love the way it looks, the way it turns, the way it glides! I'm so happy with this little airplane.

Flight was 20 minutes and the bat. was half the way.

Sounds like Barry bonds on 'roids.

I had a chance to get one of these NIB at a swap meet a few months back. I pretty much do all scratch building now, but kinda regret not getting it. The idea of 4 LPS motors seems different and interesting. The lowest power Feigo 12mm brushless draws about 2.5A geared. Not a powerhouse, but with 4 of them, it would be pretty interesting, and still only draw 10A.

Yes should be nice but, too expensive with 4 brushless ESC.

The TowerPro 10A ESCs are only $16 each from the Chinese sellers.

Yeah, and from my experience with Tower Pro ESCs you may get to experience an engine out scenario with a dreaded 3 engine landing! How cool would that be?

Cheers

Derick,

As I stated on RCG, very well done! You have awesome flying skills to be doing that kinda stuff on a maiden!

I got mine at an Electric Fly-in in January for $50! So far I have lots of good flights on this. I recently bent the nose gear on a rough landing, and when I went to bend it back, the wire snapped. Still need to get a new nose wheel wire bent. On the board to do for this weekend.

The wire Scott gave me yesterday was too small a gauge, and he lost my actual nose gear wire. Hopefully I can rig something up before the weekend is over.

Unfortunately, I don't know. I'm going to take some parts with me to the LHS and just buy a couple lengths of wire. That way, I will have some spare on hand.

Yeah, I have a variety of stuff I've picked up that way. I was actually just in Viper looking for some .047 but they're out (again).

Thread Revival!! My wife picked me one up at HobbyTown in Norman Ok for $45 this past weekend! In order to keep it light I did not go all with the usual make it beautiful stuff (spackle, fiberglass, lights, etc...), instead I sanded off the dimples and painted it with Krylon camo green and brown, put the decals on and called it good. I followed a lot of threads and went with crxmanpats ideas as far as putting the rudder and elevator servos forward, mounting the motors on sticks and such. I ordered a couple of 2s 1050 lipos and a brushed 20A speed control that I forgot I even had (its amazing what you can find after 20 years of rc flying).

All that said, can any one supply me with a picture of where they put the battery? I see that it will fit in the lower compartment but I want reassurance that it is what everyone else was doing. Also, I am an EDF guy that loves expo, I assume this one does not need any as it flies at the speed of smell? Thanks in advance!

Phil

Holy thread revival Batman!

Man, I was such a newbie when I posted to this thread. Seems like such a long time ago....

Phil, the stock battery location is forward of the main landing gear. Unscrew the langing gear from the airframe, and the battery slides into the forward slot.

Now remember, this kit was designed based on NiMH flat packs, not lipos. I wound up cutting a hatch in mine forward of the LG, near where I put my rudder/elevator servos. Seems like you read one of my other threads. There are pics on one of them somewhere.

BTW, your plane looks great! It'll look just like a C-130 in the air.
