Default Best motor / prop for HL F18 conversion

Hello,

I'm new to WattFlyer and have been into foam pusher jets for 2 years now. I have converted a Hobby Lobby F18 Super Hornet to pusher prop. I'm using a Super Mega Jet, 6x5.5e prop, 14.8 20 C. The plane goes well but could be better.

Any ideas for good motor / prop / battery setups?

Doug,

Welcome to WattFlyer and the Pusher Jet section! To get some better traction on your question, I've broken out your post from the Welcome thread and put it in a new thread by itself.

Personally I've not had any experience with the Hobby Lobby F-18, so I'm not sure what would be good. That Grayson SMJ is a good motor. Not sure what else would be good for it.

Good luck on your search!

Default Pusher prop follow up

Thanks Pat,

The HL F18 is molded foam, 37 inch WS. My bird weighs in at 48oz. I know that the Turnigy motors and larger prop should get me the push I need. The SMJ does work well although I'm pushing it over the design limits. I must say that I have over 40 flights on the motor and ESC using a 14.8v 3000mah battery and it's still going strong. Now if would only stop snowing here in Chicago!

Yeah, that SMJ is good for stuff up to 2 lbs. At 3 lbs AUW you definitely want something with more gusto.
