Tim,
I bought the Ho-229 from an older RC-pilot, who caught a balsa alergy. He is able to calculate those Hortens at the computer to scale you want. Minifan, Midifan or even turbine. If you build them, according to the plans, they fly very well. If you are interested in drawings I can contact him for you. (I think he speaks no English) . Next winter I want to build a Horten 229 for 2 x 90mm EDF....... Heiner |

Nice work Heiner. I almost passed this up, as one of those "what if hypothetical Luft project posts" and then I saw it was you. Slowly the Luft 46 and Luft oddballs are getting more attention. I'm getting back on my contribution to obscure Luft modelling, in about 5 minutes or so. FW189.
After seeing the HE178 on the History Channel's ME262 special, I may just have to get back on that idea again. |

@ Tim,
what is the diameter of that fans? Then I can calculate the wing span, according to the fan diameters. Heiner |

If you want to scale up to 60 mm, why don't go direct for 69mm, Minifan ?

Here is the secret why they fly without vertical fin .....
http://www.nurflugel.com/Nurflugel/Horten_Nurflugels/horten_nurflugels.html Tim, if you choose the Het 3W at 3s1p you just draw 20A each in the minifan. 30A each at 4s1p ........... Wing span, scale to fan diameter: EDF 60 mm span 1 466 mm = 58 inch EDF 69 mm span 1 680 mm = 66 inch EDF 90 mm span 2 200 mm = 86 inch Heiner |

Tim,
the difference in wing span is just 1466 mm to 1680 mm. For that reason I would suggest you also the Minifan version.(you still can set in the VASA fans) I will get in contact with the constructor, and ask if I can get also a VASA scaled plan. Heiner |

Have you seen any planes from these plans fly? I would love to get a set of plans for the MF480 size as well. Any help you could provide in such an endeavour would be greatly appreciated. Paul |

Ok,
I got in contact with the design engineer, who made the drawings of my Horten Ho-229 V2 and V3. In a few month they want to bring a CNC-cut small kit to make the building much easier, than to build just by drawing. I will let you know more in a few days! Heiner |

Of course, the next best thing would be an all composite kit I notice you have the airframe very well jigged. Any chance the CNC cut kit will include the jigs as well? Paul |

Paul!
I would say, they have to CNC-cut the jigs also, because you have no chance to build a HORTEN Ho229 without ...... They CNC-cut now a Horten V and they made some extensions at the rips to create the right wing shape. When I know more, I will let you all know! heiner |

Paul,
the same design engineer who made the plans for my Ho-229 made the plans for some RC-pilots in Holland for 2x jet turbine. They flew very often in Europe with that jet powered Horten! As soon my Ho-229 is finished and tested I will make a video to post! But first I am on summer holiday in Sweden. I will be back at the end of June..... Heiner |
